This seems like one of those movies I can't wait to watch but isn't good enough for me to see it at the theater. For example, I love Shawshank Redemption but SR is one of those movie I would never pay theater money to see. I don't kow why.
I just can't take anymore movies designed to disturb my sleep or increase my cynicism. I think I'll watch Dolphin Tale 2... or better Dolphin Tale 1 because I think it's available on Netflix streaming by now.
Is anyone excited about seeing this? I just re-read the book a second time, interesting to see how this will be put on the screen. Not crazy about Ben Affleck, but the actress that plays the wife looks good.
Yes, I sure am. I read the book last year, enjoyed it, and was delighted to see the trailers.
My local independent movie house was supposed to have a showing of Gone Girl last night, but it was cancelled for some reason. I was disappointed.
This is what I posted in the Gone, Girl book thread about the movie:
.... I just read that Gone, Girl is being made into a movie. It looks like it's coming out in October.
The husband, Nick, is being played by Ben Affleck. I have to say, I think that's perfect casting--I don't really like Ben Affleck, but I totally pictured Nick to be like him, handsome yet bland, with a face you kind of want to slap for no identifiable reason.
The freaky momma's-boy ex-boyfriend is played by Neil Patrick Harris. I'm really interested in seeing that-- him being creepy and devious.
I have no idea who the actress is who is playing Amy: Rosamund Pike. I sure hope she's a good actress, or the movie will be terrible. This is a complex character who presents herself completely differently to different people at different times.
The Director, David Fincher, also directed The Game and Se7en, which I thought conveyed a lot of suspense with dark, icy cold fear in Se7en, and some darkish humor woven in, in The Game. He also directed Fight Club, which, IMO, had positives (dark, deceptive) and negatives (gimmicky). So it might be promising. I think so much will hinge on the lead actress though.
That section on IMDB only lists the scenes parents might question for children. It's certainly not the whole movie, as anyone who read the book, or even read about the book, would know. I don't even recall explicit sex scenes in the book; if there were any, they weren't important. It's a psychological thriller.
I bet if you check the "parent's guide" page for any R-rated movie on IMDB, you'll get the same horrible impression. They have to list any scene that could be objectionable due to sex or violence, even if it's a fraction of a second long.
