I saw a bald eagle today.

I live in the area of Missouri that's the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. I'd say in the last 10 years, I've seen more bald eagles than I ever saw, previous to that. Nowadays, I'll see a bald eagle maybe 4 or 5 times a year. I think it's pretty cool.

The garden is lovely. And you have honeybees!

For those who don't know, look closely at their legs and you will see the yellow pollen they are collecting to take back to the hive.

I love to watch them.

Today a great blue heron swooped and dove around my section of the neighborhood, but did not alight at the pond across the road. Instead, he went to a high tree in the next door neighbor's yard. Really fun to see all his body parts in motion, especially his skinny legs and dangling feet.

I decided to put the suet barrel feeder back out. So far only some small birds I can't identify (too small) have fed at it. Waiting for the redbellies to show up. It usually takes them a few hours or a day to realize that it's there. I'm still not putting out black oil sunflower seeds. Don't miss the squirrels at all. I saw one yesterday running along the fence across the road. He went to a fruit tree (probably apple or peach, I can't tell from here), plucked it, returned to the fence and commenced eating it. I think it's probably a peach, because I've put out apples before and they've been left untouched. Of course, those were commercial. I do love nature, but mice and squirrels are pests.

Yesterday, we had another heron at the pond. Not the same one as the other day. I am in love with these creatures.

I just went for a walk on Westhampton Beach. There were piping plovers (or maybe sandpipers) within literally 3 feet of me. At one time was chasing the other; I wonder if it was a prelude to mating.

If you see less of me on CD for the next day or so, it is because I am at the beach and struggling to dictate these posts.

I was at the beach today finish one of the last of my summer reading books and I saw a small gaggle of geese practicing their Vee and getting ready for their flight.

They made three passes overhead. Young'uns and their form was less than impressive.

Just got back from Alaska and Canada. Way to much to catalog, however the Whales are worth mentioning.

I hope you had a great trip.

I would like to see whales in nature. What kind did you see? Any blue whales?
