how is kenilworth to live? nice?not so nice? any feedback is appreciated.

how is the commute to nj transit, pain in the neck or easy?

and anything else you feel is helpful please contact me or reply here.

My husband and I have looked in Kenilworth. It has a nice little neighborhood feel. A little deli on most corners. There's a lot of industrial buildings there, so you need to drive around to really see what/who your neighbors are. The main street that runs through (i believe it's kenilworth blvd) has a couple of shops/restaurants. There's a very nice stop and shop near by as well. The drive to the train is not that bad, but it's still a drive. On most blocks the homes are well kept, nice capes or splits. We noticed that a lot of the homes on the market were in estates- it has an older community feel. However, there are others in their mid-30s - 60s as well.

You can drive to Harrison and take PATH to Manhattan, or you can drive to Staten Island and park at Ferry and take free Ferry to Manhattan if you work at lower Manhattan.

It depends. Do you work midtown or downtown?

If you work midtown, remember the train in Cranford only goes to Newark Penn, so you'd have to switch there. And parking in Cranford is more expensive now. Since you're not a resident, you'd have to park in the outdoor pay lot which is about two blocks away and it'll cost you $8 a day (used to be $2). But if you work downtown, Cranford's a more viable option since you can simply catch the PATH right there at Newark Penn.

If you do work in midtown and don't mind paying the $8 and taking the extra walk, then park in Cranford and hop on the 113X bus, which drops you at Port Authority. Or, if you're dead set on the train, drive a little further to Linden and take the direct train to NY Penn Station.

Talking thank you all

thank you all for helping me out. we have ended our search of kenilworth...but it wasn't worth the hassle with their lack of transportation and overall not so impressive neighborhood. We are currently looking at homes in Garwood and have seen one that is 4 blocks from the train station. Thanks again.

Can't tell you of commute options. When I lived there, I took the 59 NJT bus on occasion, since it was a wheelchair-friendly bus. (Note: the bus route no. might've been different. I don't recall.) Was a resident of Kenilworth for 39 years. Seems like a whole lifetime ago.
