if you let it implode you wouldn't to put more cash in either and you can start with a clean slate, like I've always said the only real problem in newark is it's residents, get rid of the vermin and then people will consider revitalizing the place. In asbury and long branch they've cleaned out whole swaths of derelict housing and replaced blighted areas with nicer homes and have attracted more "decent" residents, the same could happen in newark if you cleared out the bad people. Like I said it will never happen because there is nowhere to disperse the current residents, so newark will remain mired in a rut.
Yeah they've cleared a lot of derelict housing in Newark but as you said, those ppl have to go somewhere.
Sure getting rid of the vermin would be great but how can this be done w/o more police? As long as Newark seems an attractive place to do 'dirty' the vermin won't leave. The city has to make it hard for them to conduct their business
-Newark's been putting in newer decent homes for years but it won't solve the problem because the bad seeds in the city remain.
-If East Orange could drop its crime the way it did...

no if you move the bad poeple out, you are simply moving the problem thats all. you need to solve the problem--if you arent part of hte solution then you are part of the problem!
solve the problem and then you wont need to ship undesirables elsewhere.
you cannot have bad seeds congregrate. you need to have them blend in amongst the middle class. put all bad in 1 area, like a prison, and you see what you get. sprinkle some bad amongst some good, and it will work wonders overnight!!

there is no easy solution, we as a society are reaping what we have sown with bad school systems, generational welfare, 60's flower child thinking, systemic corruption and many other factors have teamed up to produce the disaster that are urban places like newark. before massive changes can be made to places like this, the problems have be removed, made to go away.
until people begin to distance themselves from the liberal ways of doing things that have been popular for the last 4 decades things cannot begin to change
ive said it b4 and ill say it again, whites created the ghetto and now they cannot find a viable solution. since they created the ghetto, it is their responsibility to fix it, and to somehow re-integrate the hoods back into society. incarceration does not work. threats of punishment does not work. more police does not work.
all of these social ills are the effect of poverty, poor education, white racism, and lack of community--and this pattern is indicative of urban areas everywhere.
As long as this antiquated style of thinking runs NJ cities, they will never, ever get better.
Apparently there still haven't been any arrests. That's shameful. Obviously the cops have a good idea of who probably did it; they were almost certainly from a nearby neighborhood and affiliated with the local gangs. Obviously people 'in the community' know who did it. But nobody has come forward yet. That, more than even the killings themselves, is why Newark is in trouble.
