I'm an Indian and I'm so sorry so many people have this impression of Indians, we've lived in Virginia and here now for 8 years and NEVER stared at anyone in our lives, black or white, nor do we know anyone who has. Sometimes our friends' parents do find looking around (the different culture here) extremely interesting and have stared in fascination, definitely not to be rude. I apologize on behalf of at least the non-staring Indians, and we have a very friendly culture which unfortunately comes with its set of inquisitive people. My husband and I have worked with and are friends with a lot of non-Indian people and have no problems with any of them. This is a beautiful and extremely friendly country that at least I wouldn't want to deprecate by 'staring' or any other rude behavior.
How nice of you to say that. Maybe the OP should walk up and introduce herself. Do you think that might help?? Or, is there a traditional treat or dish that she could make, like I might make chocolate chip cookies, to take to them, and introduce herself?? I have never experienced that, I am usually overly friendly, so people staring at me is a "norm" cause no matter the culture, I just am friendly. Thanks again
This story is suspicios because Indians don't like cats and dogs. I've got a Indian friend on my street... Patel ... he says Indians mainly like birds that u can keep in a cage and keep clean. Maybe there are some Indians with cats, but not many I'd doubt.
That's BS and your friend is lying. My township (West Windsor) has tons of Indians and many of them have dogs (3 on my street, in fact). Just as many as other cultures. A few have cats, but not as many that have dogs.
I don't know of a single Indian with a bird. I know of one with a guinea pig and fish, however.

Have u ever heard of an Indian Sheperd or Indian Bulldog? No... because Indians are not big on dogs although there may be acceptions.

I can't tell if you're really that ignorant or you're just being silly now. It's no 'acception' or even 'exception' that Indians have dogs. Even in India, they have dogs as pets -- I go there every year for work. I'll admit that I haven't seen cats as pets in India, but there sure are plenty of stray.
Somewhere along the way in the history of EACH of our Families someone came here from another country (unless we are 100% Native American) along with the dream of everything a new world stands for.

Ive gotten that too, when in an area where black folks are rare. Some people just do that when someone looks or behaves different. I think some maybe dont think they are behaving rudely, according to their culture and custom. Or maybe some dont care if it's ill-mannered, and just dont like seeing you in 'their space'.
People are warned, if they visit India and especially if they are blond blue-eyed women, that they will be stared at. They are told not to make eye contact and to wear sunglasses. They even are prone to touch.
India is HUGE. There are many different regions, even some with different languages. English unites most of them and the road system, but there are many poor backwater areas. I don't think they are the same cultures, in a way. Look at the divisions between North and South in the US. Can you imagine if we did not share a common language for a very long time and if their were no good road systems connecting us?
