WEEKS UNTIL THE ELECTRICITY IS BACK ON?

Thanks for your response. Turns out it was voice mail from the phone company. My friend called me this morning, I guess from a cell phone, and gave me all the grim, depressing, devastating details.

What can you say about this trouble? There are no words of encouragement that will help..all people can do is stay calm and carry on. People are strong..they actually care about each other despite what some may say...all will be well...It's just a mess that needs to be cleaned up. Those who were not harmed...you came up on top no matter what- Those that lost their lives or were injured..My deepest heart felt sympathy and love....Storms come and they go..the sun always breaks through to present a brand new day....all will be well.

Death Toll up to 62.

Sandy's death toll hits 62, as tales of tragedy and heroism emerge from devastation | Fox News

NYC alone has had 30. If you add Long Island, more than half the deaths occurred in NY.

New York City's Hurricane Sandy death toll rises to 30 - NY Daily News

What's the reason for the low totals of NJ? You would think a direct hit would have produced more deaths. Thankfully, not, but people want to make NJ ground zero, when NY actually suffered the greatest loss of life.

I've been living in North Carolina well over 20 years but I'm a Jersey "girl" (middle age woman) at heart.

Maybe it's time to suck it up and get up there and help but I'm afraid of the fast pace I left behind and I'm not so young anymore.

If someone needs a place to stay, far away from NJ, NYC, etc., DM me. I will do whatever I can.

I'm poor but will do whatever I can to put people up. I'm in North Carolina.

I am so sorry to hear and see what Sandy has done to your area! I survived Hurricane Hugo (1989) in Charlotte and it was devastating. Many of us in Charlotte were without power for weeks. Our city looked like a war zone. I remember thinking Charlotte would never recover, never be the same.

We did survive. Neighbors helped neighbors. We all shared food (that was defrosting from loss of power). We helped each other clear out yard debris, repair roofs, etc.

Just wanted you to know that you will get thru this and sending you all the best from Charlotte.

I didn't know Hugo hit Charlotte! I saw a lot of displaced boats on the highway here on 17 going into Charleston. My dad told me about it and I just assumed only the South Carolina coast was affected.
