The Beacon has 3 shuttles. There have been occassions where a shuttle has been out of service due to unforseen maint. needs. This can affect the schedule, especially the once every 10 min. schedule during rush hours. Otherwise the shuttles are reliable. If you are waiting for a shuttle and have any doubts about service on a particular day, a quick call to the Lobby front desk can give you the latest status. I have called twice in the last two years. There is also notification on Twitter as soon as a schedule issue is discovered. While it's true that some owners are elitest and look down on renters (and the many other owners who do not share their views), they are not many in number and are easily avoided. They usually spend most of their energy thanking each other and telling each other how great they are, and how much they contribute to the community, (without acknowledging the contributions of anyone who is not their friend). Most owners are realists and understand that the renters are an essential part of the viability of the community, especially in this market, where sales have slowed so drastically. The developer is also very much involved with this project personally, and will be for at least 6 or 7 more years. He has ultimate veto power on any Condo Board proposal and would not let any rule pass that was detrimental to investors ability to rent their units. I wouldn't worry about these people. They have no real power.

I find it very interesting that people would pay THAT kind of money to live in complex that really is a city unto itiself which is for all intent and purposes is located in the middle of a slum!! No amount of amenities could compensate for the amount of money it costs to live there vs. the reality of the surrounding environment. By the way, this was a huge city hospital at one time. I wonder just how many deaths have been recorded at this facility while it was operational. Sounds creepy to me!!

Its in an improving area , its not as bad as Greenville or a 1/2 mile south. One day the area around it will be = to Downtown Jersey City.

The "reality" of the surrounding area is changing. The Montgomery Gardens Public Housing to the East of the Beacon is going to come down over a 5 year period. Mixed income housing and retail will take its place. Many people in Jersey City and from surrounding towns were born at the Beacon when it was the old Hospital. As with any hospital it has good memories for some, and tragic memories for others. If you live in a house built before 1910 there is a good chance that people were born or died in your house too, only the difference is, in your house, all the original walls and structure remain in place, THAT"S creepy. The rehabbing of the Beacon buildings is a total gut job. There is nothing left of the old hospital in the buildings that have been redone except for the historical areas on the first floor and the exterior facade. The Beacon is a beautiful place with easy and quick shuttle bus access to the Path & Light Rail. It will only get better over time.

The inside of the Beacon is nice but if you looked out your window over the weekend you might have witnessed a 5 YEAR OLD GIRL that was shot and almost killed while in the courtyard of Montgomery projects.

That was a pretty sad story. I think the City has plans to tear down those and other projects.

I grew up in Jersey City, and I've been in the old Medical Center a million times... ( I was a Tomboy who always got hurt LOL)...As far as I remember, that hospital was the cruddiest, ****tiest hospital...always dirty and overcrowded. I've gone into the new Beacon and yes, it is beautiful inside...the Medical Center was beautiful before it got destroyed....However, I would NEVER EVER live in there...just too many gross memories.

The Beacon is use to be the Jersey City Medical Center. They renovated a lot of patients room and what not. The area is not I would say best, The building on the right side is for low income people mostly own by the city or the state. I agree with someone who said consider Hoboken, but parking is ridiculous specially on weekends, unless you have a zone permit.

NO patient rooms were "renovated" at the Beacon complex. The buildings that are complete and the two that are under construction are TOTAL gut jobs. You obviously have never been to the Beacon or even visited the web site (BeaconNJ.com). The only renovations occurred on the first floor of the Capitol and Rialto in what was historically known as "Broadway". On that floor the walls in the main hallway are granite, and all the paint and lighting, and the floors, were restored to their original condition. The theater in the Rialto was also restored as was the former Mayor's Office.

A wildly uninformative post. Thanks!
