I just saw a feature on LXTV about the Beacon. It was interesting that they didn't show the surrounding neighborhood at all.
Where will the families in the projects go once they knocked down the buildings?
No, it's not interesting or surprising that they didn't show the surrounding area in a video on TV. First of all, the area around the Beacon is not very interesting at all. A tired looking diner, a new Art Gallery, a video store, and some older homes is kind of boring, like you didn't know that. What the Beacon has going for it is easy highway access and a short commute to the airport or NYC. Eventually it will have its own retail stores and there are other retail projects planned for the area, but those are years away yet and only in the pre-planning, pre-approval stage. The people at Montgomery Gardens will go one of two places. To low cost, subsidized (by you) rentals scattered throughout the area, or to the new federally funded Project Hope VI low density, low rise townhouse apartments that will be built on or near the site of the existing buildings.
Yes that place used to be a hospital not very long ago, if you move there you can enlighten your guests by telling them how many people died in your living room, or how the painters had to put 10 coats of white to disguise the blood stains on the walls, give me a break, would want to live there? you have to be a wack job to come from london to live there.
Only someone who had never been in the Beacon could make such ill informed and derogatory statements about someone's home as Craig does. The Beacon rehabs are a total gut job except for the Art Deco historical features of the buildings. Even 30% of the exterior brick has been replaced in the buildings completed so far. The Lobby was completely built as a new addition to the structures. The ONLY clue that this might have been something other than a residential building before are the enormous elevators. Except for that, virtually nothing exists from the old hospital days including walls, hallways, electrical, heating & cooling systems, etc. If you live in a home built prior to 1910, someone likely died in your home too, since most people were born and died at home until the first decade of the 20th century, only no one has since removed the floors, walls and systems in your house, like they did in ours. Montgomery Gardens will be torn down in about 2 years. It is a federally funded project so the economy should not affect the time table for demolition and rebuilding.

I'll give you an A for effort to try to convince people to buy in the OLD Jersey City Medical Center. That place was a dumping ground for over 70 years for TB, aids and every other infectous disease known to man. I used to drop off every drunk and druggie I had for 20 years and they roamed the halls of your new house, because they were forced to admit everyone. That place was disgusting with blood and guts ALL over. The county jail had a TB and aids ward and I hope it's not your apartment. Good luck to you but that compound is surrounded by skells. Good luck , it's not my cup of tea.
