I really don't get it. Especially the restaurants. We have been crossing the river to dine indoors in PA, and they are only allowing a certain capacity indoors. So , social distancing, check. Masks, check. Why can't we do the same/??

Plus, he's allowed kids to return to school. Um, if you can do that, you can certainly open restaurants. Even with a 25 percent capacity, BETTER THEN NOTHING.

I went along with all of the rules, but it's getting old. And i feel very bad for the business owners. We have definitely ordered takeout a lot more, but i refuse to eat outdoors when it's 90 degrees out. So PA has been getting our business, which sucks.

I live in North Jersey, right on the border of Rockland County, NY. You better bet I drive into Rockland to eat inside when it’s disgusting and humid outside. My friends from New York love to complain about how horrible Cuomo is, but when I tell them the extent of the damage Murphy has done to this once-great state, they have a hard time believing I’m actually telling the truth.

What a joke this Governor is. I used to use “a-hole” as a word to describe him, but now, I feel that doesn’t describe him anymore because it’s so weak. If I saw him in public, I’d have to really restrain myself not to go up to him and give him a piece of mind.
What on earth are you ranting about? NJ was shut down in late-March and deaths per day dropped below 100 in mid-May. That's a bit more than 2 or 3 weeks, so your hyperbole is showing. We've seen other states open too quickly or close too slowly resulting in cases and deaths jumping. A significant portion of NJ's economy was reopened, but gyms and restaurants are a special case and they represent a small fraction of NJ's GDP. Even if every gym and restaurant closed up for good this month, they'd be replaced after the nightmare ends.

It's fair to scrutinize and criticize Murphy's reopening strategy, but communist, socialist state, out to "destroy Trump"? Doesn't seem to stand up to reason.

IMO: In words only as he really knows that most of the teachers would disagree.
He speaks from both sides of his mouth - a real political hack IMO.

NJ is not other states. I firmly believe we have a measure of immunity here. With the way the virus swept through before we really understood anything about it, it wiped out our most vulnerable already, and infected thousands who never even realized they had it.

I had dinner with a group of friends last night. We ate outside in one’s backyard, but only because it was nice out and their yard is beautifully set up for get-togethers. The boys all went inside to game. We hugged hello and goodbye, we all sat close together around the fire pit.

I think very few people in their private lives are bothering with the whole social distancing thing anymore. If we were going to see another spike, it would’ve happened already. We’ll probably get a bump in fall, which will send the weak-minded into another panic. Crazy to me that folk who like to say “look at the science” aren’t keeping up with the science. They’re still stuck on bodies in refrigerated trucks. That’s not where we are anymore.

Yep, it's time. Quite a few have indoor dining but don't advertise because of the "Karens". I kind of like it because they have no crowds now.

Murphy likely views outdoor dining as the replacement for indoor dining. However, many restaurants don't have outdoor space. When it's November when it is too cold out, he will wait after the Election.

But, restaurants could likely use the help of re-opening indoor business now.

Perhaps he could allow them to re-open indoor dining at 25% capacity like that of PA, distancing between tables, having customers vow they are not coming in to eat with a cold or other sickness, and also encourage restaurants to have customers place food orders ahead, so that when the customers arrive, food is ready.

Not to rush the customer and have them eat fast, but somewhat expedite the time, likely down from 40 minutes down to 20 minutes. I think restaurants would like that expectation, as the 25% capacity limit would mean they'd want quicker rotations between customers at the tables that are permitted for dining. For low activity restaurants, customers can order but while sitting (ahead before food arrives), mask must be worn.

As for gyms, implement capacity limits, mask requirements, temperature checks, and open limited areas, e.g. weightlifting, weight stations, stretching areas, but close the treadmills, elliptical areas, i.e. areas where there is higher breathing exertion and it is difficult anyways wearing a mask.

I find it interesting that the malls have re-opened, but the massage chairs are sealed off. I suppose the idea is it is viewed as dilly dallying and they don't want mall customers actually enjoy going to the mall, but it's not like there is higher breathing exertion or anything actually risky of having the chairs be operable.

My response to this (and I agree with you) is not based on science, but it’s rather that people are having too much faith in Murphy to do the right thing rather than “let’s have a good portion of the state unemployed and destitute so we can save just one life from this apocalyptic plague.p, and the 99.9% death rate is just a myth.” He really is a joke. He said, “Enjoy outdoor dining for now.” That’s great if we were like Florida and had warm weather year round and restaurants had adequate space to operate outdoors like they would inside. But that’s not the case at all, and he chooses to selfishly ignore that.

I’ve stopped talking to a few of my friends because they hurled every insult and swear word at me when I told them I was going to the park a few weeks ago, at the end of July, for a walk. And that I was going to sit at an outdoor restaurant that night. I don’t have a problem with people choosing to stay home and never, ever leave. When they lecture and insult the people that are going about their lives, that’s when it becomes a problem I won’t put up with.

Last estimates I saw put the region at 20%-25% - that's good, but with COVID's propensity to spread, I think the infection rate could shoot up pretty quickly in the remaining 75%. And there are still plenty of vulnerable in that 75%.
