Default HELP! Advice on Apt. complexes/ buildings in Bloomfield, Nutley, Lyndhurst, etc

Hello! I will be moving from Florida to NJ for school in Newark and have been looking into apartments in Bloomfield, Nutley, Lyndhurst, and the surrounding areas. I have done rent.com, gardenstateapartments, nj.com and every other website inbetween but it is really hard to pick a place to live over the internet without some input or recs.
I am seeking any advice on apartment complexes/ buildings in these areas that I am looking for a studio- 1 bedroom up to $ 1000 a month. I have also looked into private houses ( like renting an attic apartmet, or a top floor in a multi family house)
Any guidance is much appreciated! Thank you!

You may want to try Belleville or Montclair. Montclair has the bus direct to Newark also but has alot of resturants, a concert hall and nightlife too. You do have to pay for parking if you rent in an apartment building without its own lot...so you may want to check into 2/3 family homes.
Check out www.craigslist.com for rentals in these areas.
