It depends on which building/development and whether you are in a preference group.
Are you disabled, in the community board, or a city worker? Then you would probably be in the first batch to be moved in.
To get an idea, see if there is a thread devoted to that lottery and see how others are making out. There is a wealth of information here for the taking.

I was rejected from a recent lottery because I allegedly did not respond to a 5 day request for more documents. I went through my email records (including spam) and no such notice was sent to me. I filed an appeal, but I have no idea what the next steps are. I asked the person at the management company what documents were requested so I can prepare them in the time being but i've received no response. And considering they didn't send the first notice I don't have much faith they'll follow up the 2nd time. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to be waiting for?

See if they can shed some light for you.
The website where I found the above information is here(just in case I provided wrong info): HPD - Contact - Contact HPD
Its been 6 weeks since the interview & still haven't heard anything, a little over a week ago they called to verify income & my money order still hasn't been cashed, should I call to see whats going on?

Thanks! I was able to get ahold of someone at the HPD about my situation and they told me if the management company doesn't contact me by Friday that I should let them know and they'll do... something.
At this point I'm not sure what any of this is going to accomplish. Its starting to look like the apartments in my AMI are already being filled right now (there were a very small amount to begin with), so if the HPD pursuits this and finds that the management company throughly screwed up I'm not sure what I'm going to gain out of this. I tried ask them about possible outcomes but they didn't want to speculate.
Anyone have any experience with this? If the HPD finds the management company at fault is there a chance they'll give me an equivalent unit in an upcoming lottery or existing development?
No, there is no chance of that. Just because they didn't get back to you doesn't mean they screwed up. They might be dealing with applicants with lower log numbers. Marketing agents tend to ask for a lot of stuff way before they need it, which is why people are constantly having to send updated documents, so that they do have it when your number, literally, comes up. And six weeks is not long!

Yeah didn't think it was likely... oh well.
I think the issue for me is that they claimed they sent a 5 day notice for documents, but I don't think they ever did and they won't provide proof it was sent or even respond to any of my messages in the last 2 weeks. Assuming they didn't actually send it... what would happen?
If they didn't receive the documents, they'd reject you for insufficient documentation or some such. Then you would appeal. Ask if they received the documents they need, and just wait.
This whole process is disoraganized by people who don't make a lot of money nor do they care about their work and managing deadlines. I'm sure you responded within the 5 days and they gave you an excuse to get rid of you.
I've been through this process and they keep asking for stuff I already submitted. It's just so LOW CLASS. The people working there are the worst!!!!
