The American Copper Buildings Readies For Leasing With New Renderings and Website, Affordable Housing Lottery Begins Monday

The American Copper Buildings at 626 First Avenu along the East River are catching everyone’s attention thanks to their sumptuous copper cladding and the 300-foot high, amenity-filled sky-bridge connecting its two towers. The rental development, designed by SHoP Architects, reach 41 and 48 stories once open will hold a total of 761 apartment units. New renderings of its lavish, condo-level interiors were released earlier this week and show rich earth-toned materials applied throughout.

There are only 160 "affordable" units out of about 800, and half are reserved for local community board preference.


Pretty impressive building from a luxury point of view. Keep in mind just as with the Statue of Liberty and every other copper structure exposed to the elements, the façade will turn green over time as the metal ages.

Nothing have read so far mentions "permanently" affordable, so am going to assume at some point in future such units will come out of that scheme.

30K-38K is NOT ridiculous, its what many single NY-ers make!
Count your self lucky if you are single and make more than 40K. Lots of people have it worse than you.

But the roof deck, pool, gym and sauna sure look nice.
As Macnyc says don't look at the building just enjoy the amenities of living there.
