For the record, they do not rent rooms hourly at the Howard Johnson. It is strictly by the day.

You'll get jumped by the Latin King, Trinitario, or Blood/Crip from the nearby project

If that were the case, it would be on the news every day, because this hotel is visited by scientists, vets, grad students, botanists, international and middle America tourists visiting the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Yet we don't hear such attacks..why is that Wang_Chung? Answer: Because you don't know what you are talking about.

If any tourist or otherwise were ever remotely assaulted at or around this hotel, you can bet that it would be front page news. It's no different than all the young white women who walk these streets to teach at the public schools....you can bet the house that if any where assaulted in any way it would be front page news..yet it never, ever, ever happens. Nobody cares about these people, because they are too busy living their own lives and the trouble makers come out at night, when none of these people are around.

That train stop is a 5 min. walk from Happy Land Social Club where in 1990 87 people were murdered.

Ehh I've been in the immediate area under the train and it's not that bad. However, please don't venture into any of the residential blocks or the nearby projects.

Stagger that was 20 years ago..should we talk about what was happening in most other neighborhoods in NYC 20 years ago??? 1991 was a scary place in NYC...much of it.

If the middle American and International tourists, students, scientists etc can safely manuever the area, I am very confident everyone can.
