A word about 2 Gold. It is a party building. And he will definitely make friends if he goes out onto the roof deck on weekends and mingles.
Yes, I second 2 Gold. Tons of young professionals, modern building, nice digs, the rooftop view is out of this world and lots of young people go up there in groups to hang out and lounge on the wooden chairs.

8,000 dollars months rent, contact a management company that I Know of WAM equity, they will set you up in a nice apt with doorman and built in laundry service and also full of young Transplants just like your son who will be new to NYC.

200 Water Street attracts a younger crowd than 2 Gold - it's a LOT of Pace/NYU students. 1 West is a little older than 2 Gold but there are still a TON of young people - 25-30.

How do the students afford the rents?

Student loans or parents money?

How in the heck is $3k/month "not too bad?" I call it highway robbery.

Definitely. Some friends that I've made here are digging out from $100k + in student loans, and others had everything paid for - those lucky ducks!

Also, 200 Water was an official NYU dorm until the 2010-2011 school year.
