If you are planning to live in a "hood" you may consider one with a shorter commute to Midtown and newbies/transplants...like Concourse area around Yankee Stadium, Port Morris in the very Southern tip of the Bronx, or even Melrose where an entirely new middle class community is being built.

If you have to move to the Bronx try to avoid that area. If you have no choice due to finances try to avoid being out late night and watch your back. Get a security gate installed on your fire escape window and good deadbolt for your front door. It will suck when one of your non working neighboors breaks into your apt while you are at work. It also sucks when you have to step over dutch guts and a group of scary teenage males smoking weed in your hallway. I thank God everday I don't have to live like that anymore. Black female posting so please don't accuse me of being racist.

A Dutch is a cheap cigar that you hollow out and roll weed in. Typical neighbor isn't a bad person they are usually at work with unsupervised teens at home. The boys, and occassionally a girl, get together and smoke weed in your hallway. They aren't usually criminals just bored teens but it's a nuisance and sometimes they are dealing drugs or looking for trouble. It can be very intimidating.

Unfortunately this does happen in many of the tenement buildings. I have also noticed the hallways of co-op city on occassion...kids going to the hallway to smoke. Not necessarily troublemakers or criminals, just bored and want somewhere to smoke. It is annoying.

ok, i thought you meant the remains of throw-up ( guts)

that is a frightening thought to know that neighbors who are home when you are at work can rob your place

would one find the above in the hallways of Fordham Bedford (ie area north of Kingsbridge Rd) bldgs as well?

Yes, this unfortunately happens a lot in ALL the boros and NJ. I noticed it mainly happens in neighborhoods that are on the cusp of gentrification.

Actually, being black do not prevent you from being racist, everybody in this world can potentially be racist towards others despite your skin color (however I'm not saying that you are actually racist)
