We all know that most of the violent crime in NYC, originates in or around housing projects.
So what if NYC was to put all of its projects in one place, with legal and (ideally) physical boundaries?
what if we developed Randall's island and put of all those project residents there?
Or maybe we can put them in the Bronx, make the whole borough a public housing project as a legal entity. We would need check-points north and south of the Bronx, and on the bridges of Randall's island.
This would reduce crime in NYC like no other measure that has ever been tried, Guaranteed!
And it would provide housing to the current public housing population!

Did you take the time to sign up to only let us know of this absurd idea?
It has to be on an Island .None of the peripheral islands are big enough and it would be impossible to contain people in The Bronx,Queens or Brooklyn because of their connections to other territories. The Bronx is also a part of the mainland US and is a vital trans Hudson link between Southern New England and the rest of the country.
So that leaves either Manhattan or Staten Island.I vote that it be Manhattan where all the projects are put.Entities that are currently in Manhattan and don't want to remain amidst all the projects can be moved to Brooklyn, which many out of towners and newer residents already consider the most important borough anyway.

IT looks like you watch to much Batman.
Hey buddy you know what? Have you ever saw John Carpernter's Escape From New York? What Borough in NYC was turned into a massive jail sealed off from rest of America? Bronx, Brooklyn, QUeens, Manhattan, Staten Island or the whole damn city. Answer Manhattan and central park was one giant farm filled with criminals. All of Americas criminals dumped into Manhattan Island and sealed off from rest of America. I would love to see Manhattan sealed off, Im sure you guys would run to the Bronx for safety. If the Bronx was an Island yeah it would probably be a good bet to do that but its geographically its attached to American contient. I think Manhattan would serve a better purpose for sealing people off. LEts not forget Wills Smith blunder movie I Am Legend where the Federal Govt ordered a complete containment of Manhattan Island, no one was not allowed to leave. In a worse case real world scenario Manhattan is the most easiest place to seal off, seal off the bridges and tunnels including subway tunnels too which are all controlled by Government agencies and you would have a real disaseter.

It's not supposed to be a jail. It's a geographical area where hosuing projects will be concentrated instead of having them all spread out around the city.
Convicts will go to jail, and no jail can be built in this project island. too much of a risk for an organized escape.

You are the one who called for "checkpoints" in your original post.
Now why don't you just go back under whatever bridge you live under?
You sir are an idiot! i hope you get jumped just walking past a project.
lmfao. gotta concur.
no way in the world is that going to happen. the government spent hundreds of millions renovating the housing projects. they've learned the hard way, and are apparently doing things differently now. what nycha needs is uber-low tolerance rules put into place. they also need better screening to make sure people who obtain housing, don't treat their homes, like a dump and the hood version of woodstock.
Horrid idea. Discrimination against the lower income people of this city even. Every social ill would be amplified on an isolated island of poverty.
Mixed income housing is the answer. It has proven highly successful so far. The problem now is demolishing NYCHA property or converting it into mixed income developments.
