I thought it'd be interesting to see where NYers are moving to and whether they are happy or not in their new places. This is about long distance moves, not moving from NYC to the suburbs of NJ/LI/CT, etc, as it's all the same. This is about everyone in the NYC metro area who moved away.
For those of you that moved or know someone that did:
What caused your move?
Do you like your new location? What don't you like or miss?
Are you happy you made the move, would you do it again?
Would you come back to the NYC metro area?

Off my back I know its NJ, CT, NC, FL, PA, GA, TX, AZ are the states that New Yorkers move to. Also they are moving from densely urban environment to a sprawlish suburban environment and life style. I hope to make a move probably in 3 years.
I'm moving to a state that follows the Constitution more closely. We'd like to stay as close to family as possible, but in this region that doesn't give us many options.
My mom & stepdad wanted to raise children of their own (I wasn't enough, apparently) (( We were house-shopping in Queens Winter/Break 2001. However, a friend of my stepdad who lived in South Texas invited us over for Spring Break & when we saw the 5-digit prices on entry-level homes around here, we never really looked back. I had the choice of whether or not to move, but as a blase 8th-grader, I was just like "Meh, who cares?", not really realizing the gravity of the situation. And we moved.
I had some growing pains but after I got my driver's license at 16, I had no problem with mobility. What do I miss? I miss the public transportation, I miss the culture, I miss the way you could meet fun people randomly, I miss the hot girls that don't weigh 200 pounds despite being less than 5 feet tall, I miss the variety of food & events. I miss the SNOW!
I am happy we made the move, but I always wonder what life would have been like today if we hadn't. I'd say it's 60/40 in favor of moving. What's done is done & now I'm just moving forward from this point on.
I would most definitely move back, if I found a great job & was able to build a good life for myself. Definitely.
1. My husband is from Texas and I didn't want him to mess up his career starting over. I didn't have much tenure at my job so my career was far more amenable to a reboot.
2. Yes. I do miss the pizza, my family, the subway, and several other things.
3. Yes.
4. To live, probably not. As much as I miss certain things, I've carved out a nice life here. But I do return to NYC yearly. In fact I will be visiting in October.
Another dumb question. They move everywhere. There are so many of them. You must be having trouble convincing them to move?
sooo e-sensitive...
