I lived in Dumbo until I moved out in May. The whole PS8/PS307 thing was a major reason I moved out. I do not hide the fact that I don't want my kids going to a ghetto public school. I'm not paying over a 1mil for a tiny condo so I can send my kids to a ghetto public school. And no way in hell am I paying 30k to send my kid to St Anne for FRIGGIN KINDERGARTEN. So I moved to Nassau County. Plus Deblasio being elected and actively ruining NYC made it an easy decision to sell and move.

And yes, all these hipster liberals in DUMBO are hipocrites. Most of them are funded by their parents so its easy to be liberal, until your precious kid has to go to school with Farragut kids. I'm a conservative that actually has to work for my wealth, so I'm glad they are getting screwed.

Replace "hipster" with "white" and you have the real meaning behind this thread and article.

Have you seen how pumpkin spice flavoring is a "white girl" thing? Imagine waking up to this headline: "grape soda is a black thing". Yeah right.
Best of all, I'm not even white, but I am apparently still a recipient of white privilege. I guess because I'm not black, wear a suit and tie, and talk proper English that I must be privileged. Forget that fact that I had good parenting, work hard every day, received an education, and stayed out of jail. The guy was typical ignorant ghetto trash. An obvious waste of my time. Our taxes are the only reason he still lives in this city.

Is Brooklyn Heights really full of hipsters? I always thought of it as more of a conventional established-money area.

I had remembered you saying you weren't white in the past and had assumed you were Asian. Recently I think you referred to your Italian ancestors though. What is your race? I'm white btw.

Totally agree.

I've been trying to figure that one out for a while too. I thought some type of Latino since Latinos can white but not white at the same time (if you know what I mean) but now I'm thinking middle eastern...which is also oddly white but not white. Or rather "Caucasian" but not white...

BH is more conventional established money, but DUMBO is full of pseudo hipsters, in addition to the traditional yuppie. Some of my former neighbors work in media/commerical arts making average salaries but their parents bought their condo for them. They can't afford St Anne, so they are counting on their kids going to PS8, now they are pissed they have to go to PS307 with Farragut kids.

Humm...I hadn't thought Middle Eastern. My guess is that he presents as white, maybe despite a mixed background?

Thanks for the clarification. My guess is that very many will send their kids to private schools if the school rezoning goes through.
