Lived on Main St and Northern Blvd for many years and the plane traffic noise enroute to Laguardia was unbearable. Extremely noisy because of how low flying all of the aircraft was and very crowded during peak travel times. Most planes were in holding patterns for at least 30 minutes in the evening.

The foot traffic in Flushing is the absolute worst in the entire city because the sidewalks are so small, and there are lines of straphangers waiting for busses on every single block, usually 20-30 deep during all daytime hours.

Downtown Flushing is a logistics and infrastructure nightmare. Grossly overpopulated. Numerous bus pedestrian fatalities every year as well.

My experience and information regarding Queens (and then mostly Flushing in particular), then, must be out-of-date . . . according to Nightcrawler's quoted articles. They say that the aircraft noise problem became particularly bothersome from 2012-onward, as such:
(From the first quoted article): Although airplane noise has long existed over Queens due to the proximity of New York’s airports, the blistering sounds of jets significantly increased in 2012 when the FAA implemented new flight patterns over the borough. These new routes, which are for airplanes departing LaGuardia, have increased the frequency of flights over residential neighborhoods in Queens, and the substantial rise in aircraft noise has negatively impacted the quality of life for borough residents.

(From the second quoted article): “The noise problem was not that bad in Flushing, but after that (2012) every day, they fly over downtown Flushing,” he said. “By the Sheraton Hotel area, you can actually see the airplane flying over and sometimes you worry about it hitting the roof of the hotel.”

So please inform me: Exactly how prevalent/persistent and serious is the aircraft noise across the great expanse of Queens-at-large? Another poster here said it was serious in Astoria (!), which is western Queens just across the river from Manhattan (!). So is it persistently serious in Long Island City? Sunnyside? Elmhurst? Rego Park? Woodhaven? Forest Hills? Kew Gardens? Middle Village? Maspeth? Woodside? College Point? Whitestone? Murray Hill? Auburndale? Bayside? Douglaston? Little Neck? Briarwood? Kew Garden Hills? Jamaica Center/Jamaica Estates? South Jamaica? Hillcrest/Utopia? Fresh Meadows? and so on for the rest of Queens? (I would assume that Jackson Heights and Corona must be rather serious, being around the rims of LaGuardia Airport . . . and I haven't even considered the flight paths of JFK Airport.) In other words, is nearly every part of the borough of Queens bothered by persistent loud aicraft noise?

Noticed airplanes once in awhile in Rego Park. None in LIC.

Airplane noise really isn't a problem in most of Queens. Then again, living near an airport and living a good distance from one are two very different things.

Amid the crush of Main Street in Flushing, Queens — a highly trafficked strip considered by locals as one of the neighborhood’s main arteries — the sounds of active construction from nearby developments add a buzzing pitch.

Yet as buzzy as it may be, the area’s volume is likely to rise even further as a slate of new area projects come into the pipeline.

Take the mixed-use building dubbed Tangram — a 39th Avenue structure developed by local heavy-hitter F&T Group — now in the excavation phase.

Or consider the 5,500-square-foot, six-unit building nearby at 41-14 Haight St., which was recently approved by the Department of Buildings. Once completed, it will stand five stories and include a healthcare facility and daycare center, records show.

If you thought bustling residential development in Queens was limited to Long Island City, it’s time to widen your scope. Builders are also targeting Flushing — the farther-flung home to New York’s second-largest Chinatown.

How Flushing is becoming Queens’ must-buy ‘hood | New York Post
flushing has been rising because of one thing only.. the Chinese.. they have the $$$ from the mainland to spend millions, they also have systems where people buy into a share for property.. 100 Chinese will get together and buy a building. they do this well.

Other than that, it isn't a great neighborhood.. Sure, it's got awesome Chinese food, but outside of that, it's pretty crowded, and dirty, messy place.. and you'll never sleep, cos aircrafts are literally 100 feet above you landing at Laguardia.. it's LOUD. anyone who says it isn't, has lost his hearing over the years

The Koreans have largely moved out to Bayside and Northern Blvd over the years.. in the 80's, downtown Flushing was all Koreans, and before that, Jews and Italians up into the 70's.

Yes! Flushing itself is pretty big. When people talk about Flushing & the way it is now they are just about always referring to the Downtown area. Which encompasses the area of Main St basically from where it meets with Kissena Blvd. going north to Northern Blvd. Where the RKO Keiths was. Sad what they let happen to that gorgeous theater. They should have preserved it. We fought for years but lost that battle long ago.

People rarely look at the other areas of Flushing. Like the South part near Queens College and the area mostly referred to as Kew Gardens for the most part. I grew up in that area in the 70's & loved it there. That area has changed as well. Not for the better either as the NYCHA development there for years that used to be great went really bad about 5 or 6 yrs. ago. When they were accused of "favoritism" by keeping out minorities. They started ONLY moving in minorities as apts became available. Went downhill from there fast. It used to be the most beautiful NYCHA development around as the people living there took it into their own hands & took care of the place. The tenants there kept it clean on a daily basis on their own. They had gardens even! Now they no longer do that anymore as crime has gone up. Muggings regularly. My mom that lived in that area & all her friends....well it got to the point that the elderly could no longer feel safe going out & walking to the stores anymore. That started for them around 2010. But that part of Flushing is still VERY different from the downtown area of Flushing still.
