I wanted to share my experience from beginning to end, because I know finding this forum helped me understand the process a lot more.
I applied to about 20 properties in April-May of 2016. I heard back May 1st of this year for an interview. This is the only developer I heard back from for an interview out of the many I applied to. This is also my first time applying to these lotteries. I went in for the interview two days later. (FYI my log number was in the lower 5,000's) since all my paperwork was in order, I was only asked to provide updated paystubs a few more times after the initial interview.
I went in to sign necessary paperwork in late June, and a month later (late July) I was called to see an apt. I liked it and decided to move forward. I was told a few days after viewing the apt that I was approved by management. My application was then sent to HPD last week, I believe on Wednesday, and today I received the call that I was approved and can go in tomorrow to sign the lease.
The process from initial interview to lease signing for me has been exactly 3 months. I've heard of others waiting a lot longer, and some even less. I am not sure what factors play into how long it takes for everyone, but I think the fact that all my paperwork was in order, and I did not need to provide any additional info other than updated paystubs as they became available may be part of it.
Congrats! You were very lucky to have had such a smooth process. Also, were you in any preference groups for any of the developments and the one you got called for?

Thank you! It's been pretty stressful because the lease is up where I'm currently living. Other than that, it definitely was a smooth process.
Nope, nothing yet. They sent a 2nd request for my landlord verification (my mom) & I called them up to see if it was a mistake because I already sent it out last week - she said it was probably cross mailed and I didnt have to send it back out.
I havent hit a month yet in my "journey" but I am hoping it's going as fast and smooth as yours

It's hard to be patient lol trust me I understand, but good luck! I really hope you hear back soon.
It was around 3 to 4 months for me. Granted, I had most of the paper work readily available. There were a few annoying things like the notary letters stating that my siblings wouldn't be living with me....lol...silly really. Also, I had to give them a notarized letter stating I wouldn't be doing business with someone I had been on the side. He had terrible communication issues with me and management asked me if I was going to continue doing business with him and I said no. Other than that, it was smooth sailing!
The takeaway from this post is that when people say that they are waiting weeks or months after having their file submitted to HPD, it's not HPD's delay but rather the developer or marketing agent. HPD approval can be really quick when there is nothing else holding it up.

I agree! The gentlemen from the management company who was handling my application, told me there have been times they've received HPD approval the same day the file was sent. He said its typically 1-5 days.
