So the latest is that there is no criminality on the part of the Shake Shack employees. So how do you think the cleaning fluid got into the police officers' drinks? A non-employee?

They claim a mistake of some sort. I don't buy it at all. If that was true then how did only these 3 have it occur? I do know such incidents have occurred accidentally in the past. On Long Island in the late 80s or early 90s a man ended up seriously ill by a cup of cleaning fluid at some restaurant mistakenly getting picked up by an employee and used for his drink

"Police sources said an improperly cleaned machine resulted in residue of a cleaning agent or bleach getting into the beverages."

I'm sure they had camera access and looked at it; I've been telling people to be careful with some of these restaurant places; the work staff that is left working WILL at some point have to choose between being efficient and taking a short cut to a standard. Most food service is overworked, and understaffed since March, and cleaning standards have fallen way off unless you a big chain. It's tough for owners to conceive throwing away food in the walk in, etc. Hopefully their was no ill will, but just be careful.

Of course, the following info generally isn’t as exciting as the original news article, so there’s a good chance that the lasting impression is that this was intentional. I’m glad that the officers are expected to recover though!

And it just so happens to go into the police officers drinks but none of the other patrons!

That is some coincidence.

I also don't buy that only 3 drinks had bleach in them, all of whom cops, by accident.

Its very possible more did. Not everyone would immediately detect something is off. We don't even know if all 3 cops noticed. Maybe one did which drew the attention of others. Its highly possible others got sick. We will know soon enough. Also even if there are others it does not guarantee it was an accident. Depending on how messed up the person or persons who might have done it if it was deliberate we've seen cases before of poisoning where the subject poisons others randomly to make it appear to not be intentional. The 1980s tylenol cyanide is a classic example
