My landlord just gave me my new rates: 2.7% one year, 4% 2 years.

so the two year is a bit different , as it is compounded on the previous years amount .

mci increases and parking spot charges are extra .many buildings use the parking spots as a profit center as it is uncapped.

still pretty reasonable in the face of current inflation
I completely agree - very reasonable indeed.

If they're going to make you pay for shelter, might as well make you pay for air and water too

Basic things a human being needs to survive need to be free

In addition to landlords, might as well have waterlords and airlords

And you guys think slavery is over

Unless busted and living off taxpayer's dime everyone pays for shelter. Only question is are you paying someone else's mortgage and bills (rent) or own.

No one is forcing people to rent. Both NYS and NYC have largest percentage of renters of any state, but whose decision is or was that?

Don't want to pay rent, buy a property. If you cannot make that happen in NYC or surrounding area then bust a move someplace where you can afford to make it work.

Renting one's housing isn't a bad thing per se; long as people are saving and investing there isn't really a problem. However many in NYC do neither. They are life long renters since their 20's or 30's then end up moaning in their old age or elderly that cannot afford housing and other costs.

If you're ok with paying for shelter, you should be ok with paying for air and water too then

Basic human rights

Stop with this owning crap, it's a false pretense. You pay property taxes until you're dead, you never own the property free and clear. You have been brainwashed to think that all of this is ok.

You're response perfectly illustrates while yourself and those like you are busted, broke and so forth.

*YOU* need to educate yourself. Owning property means you have an asset that (hopefully) increased in value. Renting gets you oogatz! At end of ten, twenty, thirty or forty years of renting you've paid hundreds of thousands in rent and have absolutely nothing to show for it financially.

Property taxes and other expenses associated with owning property are tax deductible.

Owning a home is one of the keys to building a solid middle class lifestyle (whatever that is).

Owning a home is the largest part of most American's retirement plan. Which again speaks to why so many life long renters (RS, RC, subsidized, etc..) in NYC end up busted by late middle age into senior citizen and elderly status.

It's ironic that "immigrants" both legal and illegal get this while native NY'ers of certain demographics do not.

Latino/Hispanics, Hattians, Asians and others bust their a$$es to be able and buy property. From way out in Brooklyn to NJ or even PA, they will buy because for cultural and other reasons they know renting is a losers game.

Solid middle class lifestyle

Lol

Paying property taxes until you're dead sure sounds solid

If everybody owned, then LLs wouldn't make any money though

So the only way to attain wealth is to incur debt for 30 years, while making someone else even richer than you are (boss, bank, pick one) and being ok with that

Meanwhile stock market is no different than going to Atlantic City for a weekend

You have fun with that economic slavery
