How do NYers generally tip? HONESTLY! I have been told by quite a few NYers that I overtip (and I thought I was fairly cheap lol). What is the standard tip over here? Please be honest...if you really only give $2 tips..then don't have any shame in your game! I just want to know what the dealio is!
I believe NYC tipping is quite generous compared to the mean. I'd say 15% of the cost of the service is standard, 20% if you were particularly happy, 10% if the service was substandard. The rest of the world generally tips at 10% standard. At least that's my impression.
I usually tip 20% if I didn't have any complaints. If service was whatever then 15%. I only started doing this cuz I worked with someone who was a waiter at fridays and he would go on and on how people don't like to tip and thats how they make their money.

It depends on what it is and how much it is. I usually tip 15% of whatever services I am getting and if I like the person I tip more than that.
If the service was excellent: 20-22%
If the service was good: double the tax
If the service was poor (but server had a decent attitude): 10%
If the service was horrible or server had a bad attitude: 0, plus I complain to the management
Ok, so this seems about right. I usually tip 20-25% because the places I eat are fairly modest ($8-12 a plate)..but if I have to ask for my drink to be refilled..etc..then I knock off a few percent. As a waiter, I always knew to refill the persons drink before they asked..that's a big thing for me..I hate to be chowing down and be thirsty as heck lol. Ok, so I guess I don't "overtip". A lot of dudes I know from NYC told me that waiters are happy to just receive 10% here. But if your bill is only $24 for 2 people..I think I would rather give them at least like $3 than $2.40. I guess it all depends because some places aren't as fancy as others.
Usually double the tax in restaurants, if really liked the service-20%
cabs-$1-2 depending on total. delivery guys-$3, manicure/pedicure-$5-8, hair-15%
also give $50 to the super for X-Mas
Oh and if the waiter is rude whatsoever, they get NOTHING from me since I probably won't come back. I also tip taxi drivers...are you supposed to do this in NYC? For a $11 ride I usually give them $4 for a tip. TONS of people have told me that I don't need to give them that much because they work tips into what they charge anyway.
Oh...and don't get me started on the grocery stores. Is it me, or does anyone else feel that those boxes near the baggers are ridiculously rude? I think the store should pay their wages and NOT expect the customers to. I live in Corona and everytime I go to C-Town they look at me like I'm crazy if I don't throw change in the box for them bagging ONE bag of groceries for me.
Yep,when I get my manicure/pedicure it usually only costs $18 so I give them about $25 since it's so cheap. Plus they massage my hands, feet, and back for about 2-3 minutes each.
