My sister lives in the East Amherst/Williamsville area and thinks it's a great place to raise kids. Not only does she thinks the schools are great, she thinks they're a little "too" competitive/high pressured like the well-to-do northern suburbs of NY City (where she's originally from and I still live).

If you're from Southern Calif. (your screen name) the weather is going to be a shock though, even just from metro NYC my sister found the winters quite different and unlike you it's not like we never ever see snow down here. Good luck!

For whatever reason, I find Rochester to be a little more attractive to me. It seems to have an economy more ready (and more willing to go after it) than the Buffalo-Niagara region, led by two world-class private universities in UR and RIT. I know that Buffalo has UB, but UR and RIT seem to be more entrepreneurial-driven and have more control over their drivers. (UR actually controls the UR Medical Center; where UB is more of a partnership with local hospitals and providers.)

The thing that always bothered me about Buffalo-Niagara was the fact that everything seemed to revolved, or required, drinking. I don't mind a few drinks and letting lose every once in a while, but it just lacks that entrepreneurial-drive to me.
Funny you say that as any time I've gotten into a friendly Buffalo vs Rochester debate, the first thing they inevitably mention about Buffalo is the fact that the bars there are open until 4 am. That was nice for the few years I was in college, but has no meaning to me now and never will again.

I guess it's good for businesses, but I never understood the argument people make for that. Drinking until 4 am isn't exactly my idea of interesting, creative fun time.

It's a matter of convenience for people working various hours such as hospital staff. You can go to a midnight movie and a out for a drink and a bite to eat afterwards. Different options for different lifestyles. More choice is always a good thing.

Don't know who's in them, cause I'm home sleeping , but I do know a lot of people work a lot of crazy hours these days. Not just medical I see cars at a lot of bank back offices at all hours of the night too, retail workers also benefit, get out of work at 10 go out to dinner stop off to hear some music, how is it bad to have more options in life?
