This is really kind of sad, because it says a lot about you..

I don't mind country music most of the time, but the pop-country music sounds all the same. Kind of like this:

Well,it was "the perfect country and western song" after Steve Goodman wrote that last verse ...

It's easier for me to relate to people with common interests as I do. It gives us something to talk about. I'm open to listening to other genures of music depending what it is. In Church, it's modern Christian. In bars, sometimes a band is playing classic rock.

So I wrote this for you... I call it Country Love (hum along, won't you)

I want my baby back again;
She done left town with my best friend;
The mailman let me down again today;
And so I made that mother pay;
My dog's done died and it's freezin' rain;
Like a fool, I know she's gone;
But with the lord I'll carry on.

Thank you, thank you, I'll be back for the after dinner show in the Zebra Lounge.

Picking your friends on this kind of basis is pretty much how 5-year-olds do it. Most of us grow up and realize there is a whole world of differences in everything - and it makes life interesting.

Here's whats happened to me, OP, and I'm now the big 50.

I began loving and adoring Abba. Still do.

Moved shortly after to Bee Gees, disco first then discovered their acoustic stuff. Still do.

David Bowie - LOVED since 12 or so.

Eagles - adored since i discovered them around 30 or so.

Cold Chisel - absolutely LOATHED them up until the age of 40...now i simply cannot get enough, the louder the better.

U2 - another constant from early teens.

Discovered Modern R&B about 10 years ago and love Ashante, Beyoncé, Nelly, Fiddy, Jay Z, you name it I'm listening to it.

Listen to live covers of anything from Johnny Cash to Beach Boys to ACDC.

Recently started to listen to classical on the radio at home. I KNOW. Im getting old!

Basically, some of my tastes have changed, and some have stayed the same. I went headbanging to hard rock on the weekend.

Love Ella Fitzgerald, Adele, all the torch singers. To die for.

Was a huge Nirvana fan - now not so much. It's got stale somehow.

I just cant imagine being so static in my music tastes, nor indeed judging someone else for liking, say, Roy Orbison!

Try this one for the lyrics of a "perfect country song,"You Never Even Call Me By My Name by David Allan Coe, reflecting "input" by Steven Goodman, one of my favorite writers. Excerpt:
Well a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song
And he told me it was the perfect country and western song
I wrote him back a letter and I told him it was not the
Perfect country and western song because he hadn't said
Anything at all about momma or trains or trucks or prison or gettin' drunk
Well he sat down and wrote another verse to this song
And he sent it to me and
After reading it I realized that my friend had written the
Perfect country and western song
And I felt obliged to include it on this album
The last verse goes like this here
Well I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in the pick-up truck
She got runned over by a damned old train
