You see, if you hit your golf ball out of bounds you are accessed a 1 stroke penalty and need to hit from the original spot....My wife always tells me if I need to explain my jokes they are not funny.
It's worse to explain it when you were not asked to.
The lack of knowledge of facts demonstrated by many posters is stunning, yet totally expected.
First everyone that is against it uses the term 'bar' instead it is actually wording of the bill which references 'restaurant'. Chillies, Red Lobster, Applebee's, Fuddruckers, etc., are not bars, but resturants that also serve alcohol.
They also fail to acknowledge that the person carrying must have a valid CHP, which means they have been vetted by the sheriff, have passed criminal background checks, and mental health records check, and are trained.
They also fail to acknowledge that the person carrying cannot consume any alcohol, or even have alcohol in their system.
Bad people with guns ignore "no guns" signs, and actually know that they are safe if they choose to victimize people in a gun free zone, as they are the only person with a gun. Only law abiding citizens obey laws. (One would think that explanation would not needed, but sadly it is)
Parks, do you think a child has never been abducted or a woman sexually assaulted in a park. Think again.
Why do so many people die in gun free zones? Because the shooter is the only person with a gun, and the cops with guns are 5 - 10 minutes away, if not longer. You don't hear about the shooters stopped quickly, because it does not fit the gun hysteria of the mass media.
Read the law and understand what is in the law before your criticize it. The law adds a number of sensible measures that will make everyone safer. The presence of a gun carried by a responsible citizen places no one in danger, guns don't go off without a person pulling the trigger. And they are the only one that can stop a criminal with a gun.
Why would you go to a bar and not drink? What's point?
I have not been to a "bar" in decades, but I have been to a lot of restaurants that also serve alcohol, and that is why the bill used the term 'restaurant'.
The term "bar" does not appear in the ratified version of HB937, but 'bar' is the rallying cry of people opposed. Why?

I am a little disappointed. We were promised shootouts and bloodbaths from hordes of drunk and angry CHP holders killing people for the slightest of reasons. For some reason such events haven't materialized. Weird huh?

The same hysteria when the original CC law came into effect in the 90's. Papers like the Independent were predicting shoot outs in food Lion. Carnage in the streets. When it never happened and crime actually went down they were very silent.
Just like Mississippi, where some liberal loon judge tried to block the new open carry law because of the ensuing blood bath. Well his ruling was overturned, and people started open carrying their guns. No blood bath, strange.
I didn't search through all 13 pages of ranting, but did I see correctly that they're trying to change CCW permits to 3 years instead of 5 years in NC?

I followed HB937 very closely from introduction to passage and the gov's signature, actively contacting state legislatures.
Several things were added, and removed in the process by both the house and senate, but I don't recall anything about changing how long they are valid.
A good writeup on the changes in the gun laws (and many other new laws) can be found here. It was included with the Asheville Citizen Times today, possibly many other newspapers in the state.
