Yay! Another grocery store chain. Thrilling development.

Trading a Kroger for a Wegmans seems a decent upgrade.

The Raleigh store broke the Wegman's grand opening record, and they had to open 15 minutes early because so many had already lined up, a pretty good start!

They'll eventually expand into the triad, and in the longer term Charlotte, its just a matter of time. Unless the extremely unlikely occurrence of their Raleigh stores failing happens, but I suppose nothing is impossible.

You may have that reversed. They most likely will hit Charlotte before the Triad, simply for economic reasons rather than logistical reasons.

Perhaps, but there are rumors they are looking at potential Greensboro location(s). Regardless I believe they will expand into both markets, they will need a new DC before going any further, unless they partner with someone else. I think going to Florida makes sense for them with all the relocated people in SC, NC, and FL and Georgia basically only having Publix and Kroger on a significant scale.

I agree about a 2nd distribution center, but they might do that in Northern Virginia.

I think they'll go from Greensboro to Charlotte then pick up Winston-Salem while they work on sites in Charlotte. Then they'll pick up Wilmington and Asheville. Those cities set them up for Upstate SC and Charleston. They'll probably do Savannah and that will get them close enough to get into Florida and a third distribution center, somewhere in northern Florida.

I don't know if they'll do Columbia or Atlanta, on their way to Florida. They've shown zero interest in moving west. They're after a specific demographic that has spread down the east coast.

For that matter, they have minimal exposure in New England. If they pick up more sites there, they may realign distribution centers so that the 2nd might be serving from Philadelphia to North Carolina, and/or South Carolina. That could make a 2nd distribution center in Northern Virginia a good idea.

There are always rumors about stuff happening, especially in Greensboro, but i'd rather wait for an actual announcement from Wegmans before assuming anything.

Although the Chapel Hill
Location will be a stone’s throw from Durham, I wonder why they haven’t announced a Durham store yet. South Point seems to be prime Wegmans territory

Went to Wegmans yesterday. The hype hasn't died down yet as the place was absolutely packed. But I have to say, I understand now. It's a grocery store but it's also some what of an experience. Top notch quality, beautiful presentation, and tons of variety. Unique stuff as well. My wife and I purchased some soup and some Asian food from the hot food bar. Everything was very good. The huge seating area was awesome and we saw tons of employees from the nearby businesses like Duke hospital there for lunch.

Easily the best grocery store I've ever been to. Never thought I would care enough about a grocery store to have such feelings or comments but hey, that place rocks. Will be even better when it's not almost shoulder to shoulder packed.
