The minute the dung hit the fan the mayor should have called a press conference and explained that the bathroom stuff was not new, it was a formality. I'd think that a trans man & a trans woman would have been happy to oblige her & stand with her.
So what? The bill was conceived by republicans, voted on during a special session called by republicans, introduced by a republican, approved almost unanimously by republicans, and signed into law by a republican. If the democrats had been in charge of the GA, none of it would have happened. The fact that a handful of democrats happened to cast meaningless votes for it is irrelevant.
^Preach!
This post is totally on point.
That said, there are definitely Democrats that are not aligned on LGBT issues. Lucky Dawg is correct in saying that, despite these Democrats, the party itself would have never gone down this path. To suggest otherwise is a false equivalency.

Indeed--the bill that later became Amendment One was introduced in committee for SEVEN YEARS IN A ROW, but because Democrats were in power, it never made it to the full floor. Practically the minute the Republican party got a majority in 2010, rushing it through was one of first things they couldn't wait to do.
One last thing, to address the thread title "So-called "Small Govt" Republicans", I know republicans preach small government yadda-yadda but it's all garbage from both sides. I guess that's why I lean primarily to the libertarian side which explains my comment that I'll just "hit them in the face with a board". Haha. I don't need government or anyone else to do my dirty work. I can handle myself just fine.
I don't remember any businesses canceling expansion in NC or companies putting out any statements prior to Jennifer Roberts pushing that city ordinance through. There was no sense to it. This whole thing was completely avoidable, look at the source of the problem. If Roberts hadn't pushed the ordinance through, we wouldn't be here right now.

Where are you right? If the legislature had ignored it, nothing would have happened!
