There are alost of cheap properties all over the city. I've seen fix-r-upper go for as little as 10'000 here (probably cheaper).

Why don't you bite the bullet, pay the price and move now? Invest yourself in the city to prevent it from going ghetto.
Hey, Ms. Gypsy...Happy New Year!

Nicely said... and as you duly noted... you 'have walked the walk' for quite some time in the 'Dubya-Bee' area, and have enjoyed the amenities that the area has / and has always offered.

No Outsider/Auslander has to remind of the 'bennies' you have been reaping as a Long time denizen of the area.

'Hockey Guy' (whatever his name)... came on strong in his post, and is 'prolly' young and headstrong,.... but, just by the very fact that he is interested, and buying to reside, not 'rehab' and rent/sell is a positive and progressive step.

He just needs some advice and tutleage from some older and wiser, yet STILL vibrant, commited, and charming 'peeps' like yourself .

Nice post coalboy! Could not give you rep! But I would have.
I feel super safe in Wilkes Barre, yet I am mindful of the fact that W-B is a city and NOT a small town or a cloistered suburb.

It is unfair to hold an economically and socially diverse city to those standards.

That said, I love living in town!
Wilkes-Barre is just getting better and better!

And sometimes new residents notice this as well!
We first saw Wilkes Barre as Scranton's shabby cousin - but now we would not want to live anywhere else!

Sadly, we both know that horrible things happen even in cloistered subs. I am thinking of the murder case of the Tankleffs (sp?)in Belltaire. But I too agree, I am very aware here in Scranton, that all the socioeconomic problems that go with urban living are just a stones throw away. I am constantly disappointed at the young children I see playing unattended; Mayberry only existed on TV folks and it is the 21st century.

Sum, you have to worry more about the doctors at Newton Memorial, than the folks on the street.

No, it would be a redundant statement.

Yes, Magritte...
'Dangerous slum' is listed as #15 on the list developed by the Federal 'Department of The Redundancy Department'

It follows 'Exiting out of the Driveway', and preceeds 'No income coming in'
