a surge suppressor wont stop lightning strikes from damaging your stuff... you need a good lightning arresting system. problem is the jury is still out on whether the lightning system actually increases your chance of being struck as that nice ground path is the path of least resistance....

you could take your chances and buy those little surge suppressors that carry the protection money .... but heres the catch, im a distributer for just such a line and if you read that warranty that offers damage payments it says your covered as long as the surge protector is used within its rated spec. thats the out if the company wants.

since any surge that gets thru is over and above the units spec that gives them the right not to pay in all cases.

pretty much the surge suppressors are really designed for stopping surges from static, from ballasts, transformers and anything with motors. even stopping those spikes takes a pretty sophisticated set up.
the plug in outlet strips are virtually worthless by themselves..

you need 3 components to do it right, each one counts on the step ahead of it to surpress the level of the spike ..

you need a surge at the panel entrance which is a big unit for the entire house. then one for any smaller distribution panels you may have , and finally a high quality outlet strip with surge. but even all that is useless against a direct lightning hit.

Thanks Math I am going to look into this surge at the panel entrance.......that idea I like.
Then there is a small one out to the pool.........that might need something.
The strips I have, but I know they are just a very small savior in a lightning storm.
I'll have to work on this, or I will be sitting in a corner for every storm there is.
Gosh, my neighbor has lived next door for about almost 20 years or so........and this is a first for him. It just takes a big storm ....or a close hit.

Very kind of you Math.........I might take you up on that.....hold the thought
Hubby is to ask about some things with a family member we know who works with electric .......

You are the greatest with pictures as a matter of fact.
Anything with lots of features I just cringe at. Years ago we sold off a fantastic Fuji camera because all those features were driving me crazy......
I wish I could enjoy all of that.........I know the photos could be so much better.
