Good School Districts in NOVA not populated by snotty kids of lawfirm partners? (Arlington: homes, live in)

I currently live in South Arlington and am mulling moving to someplace in NOVA with a better school system, however, I don't want to move some place where it's all kids of lawfirm partners or similarly upper crust types. My experience with such people are that they are unfriendly, self-centered blowhards lacking in basic social skills, humor, and good cheer. I can imagine what their kids are probably like (cliquish and unfriendly).

Is there any place nearby with a good school system that's populated with more normal upper-middle class people?

You mean like somewhere with engineers, bureaucrats and other people known for their social skills and wit?

Unfortunately, every single person around here is a blowhard who makes lots of assumptions about people he or she has never met, so that doesn't leave you with many options.

Wow. So many possible ways to respond to a post like this. The fact that you find the South Arlington schools not to be good enough for your own kids may garner a comment or two as to your own self-importance.

But, in any event, in NoVa, partners of professional service firms tend to be concentrated primarily, though not exclusively, in North Arlington, Great Falls and McLean. Pretty much anywhere else, there's going to be a broader mix of folks career-wise. For example, Vienna is pretty affluent, but you'd find people who work all over the region (some in DC, others in Tysons or the Dulles Corredor) in different types of jobs. Same is true in Oakton, Falls Church, Fairfax Station, etc.

You may also want to keep in mind that some major school redistrictings are going to occur in the SW part of Fairfax, so the current school assignments may change within the next couple of years.

WOW...just WOW to the OP. This thread sounds more like one that could be found on another local forum rather that CD.

Sounds like if you aren't happy in Arlington you won' tbe happy in most places in Nova...Maybe look into homeschooling?

We opted for boarding school -- best thing we ever did was get our kids away from DC! Good luck to you.

That's rich (in both senses of the word). I remember when a high school classmate went off to boarding school at Andover. She came back absolutely ecstatic about the drugs, sexual freedom and overall lack of anything that could remotely be characterized as adult supervision.

Now if we were talking about boot camp, I might agree with you!

In our experience the most cliquish, snobby kids are PRECISELY the ones with the best social skills. Kids lacking in social skills, due to Autism spectrum, ADHD, or other issues, tend to be the ones who are most likely to be excluded, isolated, and/or bullied.

I am not sure your OP is actually motivated by an interest in kids though, as you mention nothing about actual experiences in school systems. More lke you had some negative experience with an upper crust adult person in RL and are letting off steam?

I am considered by some here an evil reverse snob, just cause of some comments I made about a particular McMansion and its owner. However even I find your OP rather offputting in its tone and esp its generalization. Perhaps you might consider working on your own social skills.

Pre judging someone, hmm, is that the same as prejudice? Move on out to Loudoun County, we're all well to do hicks out here.
