Me and my wife currently live in Laurel MD and I make the daily commute to work in DC. I will be starting a new job in Woodbridge in May and will soon after move to the area. I am looking forward to having a shorter commute. Does anyone have any advice on which neighborhoods that are appealing or things to do? Also are there any area where a young black married couple will be unwelcome?

Unwelcome? There are certainly more non-diverse locales you could find. You will be fine anywhere depending on price.

Look into Lorton, pretty easy commute to Woodbridge and has a sizeable middle class and upper middle class black community.

So does Woodbridge itself actually.

What is your price range? You mentioned that you are young...do you plan on having a family soon? If so you will want to research the schools in the are that meets your budget.
if you send a pm to me I can give you a name of a Realtor that has recently worked that area.

Consider the Lake Ridge area. The schools there are generally better. Where is the job in Woodbridge?

Not knowing your budget, I'd suggest Lake Ridge (22192). I don't believe you would feel unwelcome any place in Woodbridge. It's a diverse community.

We are looking to rent a house in the 1700 range. No kids yet so we don't have to worry about the school thing for at least 5 years. My job will be at the nova community college by the town center. Are there any rough neighborhood s to avoid? What do most of do for fun there?

For $1700, you could rent a townhome in Lake Ridge.

Heck, you could live in this condo and walk to work!

AFAIC, there isn't much "fun" stuff to do in Woodbridge. It has your typical chain restaurants and bars, a movie theater, a bowling alley. If my husband and I want to do anything outside of seeing a movie and having dinner or going out for drinks, we'll head into Alexandria or DC. Woodbridge doesn't have any "nightlife". It's very much the suburbs.

Thanks for the info folks. I figured it would be pretty boring but we are used to it where we live now. We will still hang in DC allot and be close enough to show people the sites when they come to visit. We just want to rent a house and have friendly nieghbors. We drove around and visited some of the houses we saw online. We will have a real estate person show us some houses when it gets warm. I will keep posting on this thread as we go through the process.
