Are you even from around here? Are you aware that Chicago borders Indiana and the Chicago area doesn't just stop at the Chicago/Hammond border?

Nah he is a troll. I even doubt if he has lived in Chicago at all.

Well the government considers us in NWI as Chicagoland. We are the only part of Indiana that is in a different time zone because of Chicago and that's never going to change. I was just in Hyde Park a few weeks ago and they asked where I live. I told them and they replied, "oh, you're just right around the corner." To date, I haven't noticed any discriminations or making me feel like I don't live in Chicagoland. Maybe it's just the people you come in contact with. There will always be someone no matter where you go not agreeing with something.

For the record, southwestern Indiana (Evansville and surrounding areas) are also in the Central Time Zone.

When I consider Chicagoland I don't consider, strongly that is, NWI. I think of the burbs surrounding Chicago. But then again when I was in New Jersey and New York there seemed to me a clear feeling of seperation accross the two. Maybe because each city was large enough to want to be considered on its own. So back to NWI, people in this area like myself might want to be included in the term chicagoland because no single city in NWI is large enough to compare to Chicago. But from the other side, Chicago people might feel they don't need to be lumped together with NWI.

Personally I like NWI to live and shop but as far as fun and entertainment and sporting events, concerts, etc. there are more options in Chicago. But that's a great benefit of this area the closeness to a large city.

Well, during the 90s, if memory serves me correctly, the Bears where considering building a stadium in Gary and renaming the team to the Chicagoland Bears. I'm from Gary, but I've always considered myself a resident of the chicago metro area. I loved watching the Bears, Bulls, and Cubs, and all of our field trips were to Chicago.

I doubt the Bears have ever considered moving to Gary or changing their name to the "Chicagoland Bears"

Actually, there was talk of the Bears considering a new stadium to be built in Gary, but I don't know how serious any of that was. Never heard of any consideration to a name change, however.

Can't imagine there'd be much demand for lower-tier football in NWI anyway. Indiana already has top-notch professional football.

Until Manning retires. Then back to the crappy days of the 80's and much of the 90's.

Don't forget the especially great years of:

1984 (4-12)
1985 (5-11)
1986 (3-13)
1991 (1-15)
1994 (4-12)
1997 (3-13)
1998 (3-13)

That would by the gayest (No offense intended to gay people! I mean it!) name for a team ever.

I do not recall that name being considered at all.
