NOWHERE in Hawaii can the infrastructure support the growth. But you have to build, homes are needed and so are jobs.

MOST of the local population own homes, I'm not sure why you don't understand that. DHHL has tons of programs for Native Hawaiians from turn-key, to land, to getting a hui together and building each other's homes.

ALL of my friends and family own their own homes, and a huge portion are blue collar.

Newsflash: Seaside Waikiki-area condos are NOT for the average earners, nor should they be. There are other areas for them, and if you try to mix them in, via subsidy, in high-dollar complexes, you degrade the high-dollar areas.
Yes. Yes. and Yes.

This has nothing to do with native hawaiians geez. The whole point of my argument was there isn't enough effordable housing for working class and below because the focus is on building housing for richer residents or rich foriegners, when 43.3% of the population are renters of aptments you should have an influx of housing that reflexs actual population stats. Whtviper believes that three buildings, one built and two remodeled old buildings is enough affordable housing in Kakaako for working class and poor.

When did I say that? All the 22 new towers (ALL) require affordable housing limits. Sigh.

Why are you so against affordable housing?

There are affordable housing requirements of most developments. Not all renters want to own homes, so you can't really use that number as a jumping point.

Pg 2/2 continued

@Mikala43

Further, i tried to point out that these are not just my views but the views of other politicians of Hawaii from state level to city level and housing officials and other locals, business owners and activists by posting a video of all these people talking about the changes going to happen in Kakaako and what the real issues are in Kakaako. But in true CDF Hawaii fashion if its not about supporting big money or pro redevelope then its radical or frowned upon. I bet not one of you even watched it? Findout if its the truth or not?

Do you know how many jobs have been created for Hawaii's working families with the re-development?

A constantly working mason/carpenter/plumber/electrician etc. can easily afford their own home.

I confess I didn't watch the video. Why? Because it shows a highrise HOA guy. Of course he's going to be against more building. He already has his condo in a highrise, he just doesn't want more people with the same around him.

(I WILL watch the video later)

Once again your either not reading my posts or your purposely twisting words?

People can say they are building affordable housing or required to build affordable housing. The question is? Affordable for who? i quote from your article "The state’s signature project at 690 Pohukaina St. The 650-foot tower alone, on a lot also bounded by Keawe and Halekauwila streets, will include hotel rooms, market-price condos, offices and street-level shops. Construction of the total development, estimated to cost a half-billion dollars and designed to create 1,000 new housing units – half of them affordable" Theres that word again "affordable" what does that mean? The answer is this "will include hotel rooms, market-price condos, offices and street-level shops" Market-Price condos? Maybe the word fairmarket priced housing is better word?
