Hi! I'm currently residing in central Texas and will be relocating to OKC for a job at OU Medical Center. I can honestly say I have no idea about anything there...lol. I'm in need of finding out what are some safe neighborhoods to rent a house/apartment. I need the area to be priced between $500 - $750. I'm not interested in living in the more urban areas seeing as how I'm going to be living alone.

I would also be interested in finding out great places to hang out...bars, live music venues, museums, ect.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!! I can't wait to meet new people! So stoked for this move!

West & Northwest OKC are the nice areas/development currently....lots of apartments and the feel of the "Burbs."

As for the bar scene, when I was younger, I always preferred some of the Honky Tonk dives in Bricktown. I'm sure some of the other younger folks can help you with that as it's probably changed quite a bit since I was out there hittiin' up the bars.

The many casinos around OKC are always getting pretty big name musicians....mostly country/Reddirt given the culture of this area.

Welcome to the Great STATE of Oklahoma and Blessings on your move!

I'm glad you are excited to move and wish you the best of luck. Welcome to "The Nations."

Bass&Catfish is, as usual, spot on with his suggestions.

I've spent most of my life in OK, have left numerous times, and always return. Came back from 8 years away last year and plan to dig in and stay.

I have to say that for me personally OKC is far from being my favorite place in the state. I live here now but am hoping to move to a smaller town or more rural setting soon.

I've bagged on OKC a lot, but you could do a lot worse. Most of my issues with OKC aren't specific to the city but stem from the fact that I just no longer want to live in a city anywhere near this size.

A lot of people seem to like the area around the St. Anthony's, ie. Midtown. It is the one of two areas of OKC I would consider walkable. Even Bricktown inspires driving car, to me at least, with its huge parking lots. The other is nearby, which is the Paseo District. Both are about 10 minutes away from your work but on city streets, no highways.

Thank you everyone for your great suggestions! They are very much appreciated! I'm very nervous, as I have never lived out of Texas, but like I said I am very excited for this new venture in my life. I'm all in need of knowing some decently priced extended stay motel/hotels. Since I'm having to come up there to check out the apartments and such I'll be needing a place to stay while I look (4 or 5 days). Again, thank you so much for the info and maybe I'll meet some of you when I get set up and go out to explore this new city!

A lot of the younger people like to go to Edna's and Speak Easy. Both fun bars.

Texas to Oklahoma or vice versa is about as easy a transition as you can have. OKC is really not that much different than DFW other than in scope of activities and the sheer size of the place.
