California bleeding not only jobs, but companies too? (sales, foreclosure)

California allows frivalous lawsuits also. In Texas if you file a lawsuit and lose , you are responsible to pay the other parties fees. In my opinion, the legal and political systems have been the downfall of California and states like it.

I took my business out of California in the mid-90's to a business friendly state. No regrets whatsoever. California can only blame itself and its voters for what's been happening and what's about to happen. You people screwed yourselves.

California was not progressive liberal back when I was growing up. The mainstream media was not progressive liberal either; they used to be unbiased and non partisan. When I was growing up the excessive environment laws forced by liberals were not in place where critical water flow to vital California agriculture was not shut off due to a delta smelt or 10 billion of tax payer dollars was not spent on saving Salmon. It’s the progressive left that is destroying our society.

My question- do any of you guys who care about CA's natural beauty have some reconciliation between protecting it and not repelling firms?

It's easy to dismiss natural environmental preservation as a liberal crusade but if you don't dismiss it, how to you maintain it while still having a pro-business climate?

Can one not have both?

Copart Inc. will move its headquarters out of Fairfield (California) and shift its head offices to Texas according to the Vacaville newspaper, "The Reporter." What makes this move not only sad for Solano County, but for the reason the ultimately led to the owners final decision. The statewide election results in November and little hope that relief for businesses in this state will get they need.

I just hope people don't buy into Jerry Brown's hype about extending tax rates as they are now. Severe cuts to spending, including drastic reduction in state and public employee payroll's and pension is an absolute must.

Well MR. Intelligent, the title of this thread is “California not only bleeding jobs, companies too?” so if you don't like the responses and want to change the subject then start another thread . Its attitudes like yours that creates the problem in California. You either don’t understand the cause or you refuse to face it and continue voting in the same politicians and voting for the laws that have made California anti-business with excessive taxes, excessive fees and excessive environmental regulations that make it impossible for a business to survive. As a result the businesses have either left or they are planning the move. Now the state is in financial crisis because of the excessive spending and loss of revenue so what do they want to do … tax more ….

Not so. Orange County, San Diego, Riverside and the central valley vote conservative, then their votes are overturned by LA, SF & Sacramento. Happens every election. The state is too large and should be broken into 2-3 smaller states.

A Californian calling another state poverty stricken is the pot calling the kettle black. California has a rapidly shrinking middle class and a more slowly yet shrinking upper class. At the same time the state is experiencing an influx of poor unskilled immigrants, whom in turn have no way and no incentive to excel. They come to a state with a pathetic public K-12 educational system, extraordinarily generous welfare benefits, a large drug trade, and few low skill jobs because of the draconian environmental regulations, high taxes, and high wages.

Kentucky and many of the Southern states had long adopted this populist economic model. It dates back all the way to the founding of our country. The South continued on their populist economic path and ended up losing the civil war, never gained a manufacturing base, and never built real infrastructure. Today it seems they've learned their lesson and now it seems that the south is adopting the industrialist model while a select Midwestern and many coastal states are adopting the failed populist economic model.

Do you really think that California's university system is really that much better than Colorado's or Texas' or Arizona's or Utah's anymore? Do you really think that California's highway system can compare to Texas'? California has fallen behind.

All of the jobs and human capital will continue to flow to business friendly states with predictable regulatory environments and more simple tax structures. Washington (state), Texas, Tennessee, and Virginia are loving it.
