SO I moved to La Habra, and I have a daughter in 4th grade. I am looking at the reviews for the schools and it seems like they are not very good. Does anyone have any experience with the schools? My daughter is black, and I am wondering about the demographics in the school. Should I try to get a District Transfer to Fullerton? What after school programs does La Habra have?

Aw, I went to elementary (K-6) in La Habra, at Macy School, and had a good experience. But that was in the 1970s and so not helpful to you at all today.

My recollection--and again, I know this is old info and not helpful, I just can't help reminiscing--is that there was a good mix of white and Hispanic kids, one or two Asians, and no black kids until a new family moved into the area when I was in 5th grade. But honestly, black families are kind of few and far between in most of Orange County, even today.

You have to look up demographics details on sites like greatschools.org . For example, Walnut Elementary is 92% Hispanic with 49% learning English, and 1 % black. Only 18% are proficient in math. Welcome to California.

That's wha I'm afraid of, coming from Ocean View School District a high performing school, they are mostly all low performing. I will visit the school district today and see how they handle interdistricy transfers

My school district (for Macy Elementary, which I mentioned above) was Lowell. It straddles the border of La Habra and Whittier. This is a nicer and better-kept residential area than much of eastern La Habra, in my opinion, with fewer limited-English-proficiency students. I don't know how the schools may or may not have changed since my time, but according to the website they are reasonably high-performing.
