So, it turns out the my husband's new job in San Clemente will be paying more than we had thought, YAY!! So, we can afford more for a 4/2 house, and I've seen 4/2's in Mission Viejo for 2500, which we can afford. So, are there any "bad" parts of MV? I'm assuming the commute so SC won't be too bad, it's only about 13 miles...

Any opinions on the schools?

Thanks,
Kristi

MV's pretty much all nice as far as I know. The older parts are closer to the freeway (I-5).

Are the older parts bad, or just old? I don't mind old at all

Thanks!

No. Not bad at all. Just older like from the 70's. The farther you go up the hill (towards the mountain) the newer it gets. The newest communities are actuallly between MV and the Saddleback. Newer houses tend to be more beige cookie cutter with smaller lots.

mission viejo is ranked the 2nd safest city in America... so that probably answers your question about any bad areas.

The "older" areas are around Avery Parkway (east of the 5 fwy). There are also some older areas off La Paz. ANY time you get nearer to the freeway you have the potential for more crime. But I grew up in South OC and still have family there (I visit often). MV is still one of my favorite "happy yuppie" cities where baby joggers and chocolate labs are the order of the day.

Hmmmm, maybe I don't want to move there, then, LOL!!! I'm just happy to find a place where we can afford a 4bdrm rental, aside from Oceanside. Oceanside seems to have sex offenders near every home I've looked at (online, we aren't out there yet), even the nice pricey ones in gated communities. What is up with that?

Probably not really "bad" areas, but definately some areas are better and nicer than others. Very nice would be Califia, Pacific Hills. I live in Ladera Ranch, which is adjacent to MV and much newer with lots of amentities such as parks and pools and very family oriented.
