1. Is it legal to ride a moped or low powered gas scooter on the Santa Ana river bike path?
2. Is the bike path well lit at night?

1) I don't believe so.
2) No. I wouldn't want to be on it after dark.

When I lived in Irvine and worked in Costa Mesa I rode the path almost everyday after work for my workout. I rarely was out after dark but I can tell you that there are many places where it is not safe after dark. Motorized vehicles of any kind are not allowed.

I was hoping for a "safe" scooter route from Riverside to OC. Guess I'll have to keep looking.

Thanks!

Riverside to OC, best commute idea is to take metro rail if you live reasonably close to a station, and if work is reasonably close to a station. You can get a folding bike to take on board the train to get from station to home or station to work. This not a wacko idea, I have seen folding bike commuters on board the metro rail trains.

No mopeds or motorbikes on the bike path.

I used to ride my bike to the beach all the time from the City of Orange using the bike path in the 1970's, but I wouldn't now. Too much crime in the Santa Ana part of it and gang members often hang out near the underpasses or in the pocket parks.

Gangs? Seriously? I ride from HB out past the Big A a couple of times a month. There is no trouble. Tons of riders on the trail.

Is it safe from Costa Mesa to the beach? Like from where it is at Brookhurst/Adams? Is it dangerous at night from around there to the beach at night?
Also, how far is it from that area to the beach? How long would it take if you walk?
