A life long Colorado resident that has been checking out Oregon. I think Oregon has much more to offer as far as beauty. The lush forests are incredible. The High desert is pretty unremarkable, but still nicer than the Colorado plains. The Cascades may not be as high, or as plentiful, but still beautiful. Would I leave Colorado and move there. Probably, and probably will.

I find the Oregon High Desert quite majestic, especially with the large mountains in the background. The rolling hills and small desert cedars and pines, yellow sagebrush are quite interesting in my opinion.

I was born and raised along the Front Range of Colorado, and have lived in various cities including Fort Collins, Fairplay and Grand Junction. I moved to Bend, Oregon last year. Bend really reminds me of the Boulder area in terms of climate and scenery. The Cascades are absolutely beautiful, but very different than the mountains of Colorado. They are volcanic and seem to jut out of nowhere, whereas Colorado has more of the "classic" mountains many are used to. I don't know that I can claim one is better than the other, as I love both for different reasons. The climate in Central and Eastern OR is similar to CO, in that we have much more sun and snow than the western side of the Cascades.

Bend does feel very similar to places in Colorado--much more so than towns in Western Oregon. You have much more of the dry, high-elevation feel in Central Oregon, sparser pine forests rather than the lush vegetation found on the western slopes of the Cascades. Additionally, Bend is the only major burg in Oregon that feels like close to being a real ski town with Mt. Bachelor so close nearby(everyone seems to be skier or snowboarder there). And the town is very centered around the outdoors and the tourist trade, much like the towns around Summit County.

The closest scenery in Oregon to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado would probably be the Wallowa Range--it's the only spot that has a sustained number of high alpine peaks surrounding deep glacial cut valleys.

But nothing can compare in Oregon to a place like Telluride or Silverton in the San Juans as far as high alpine scenery. I love Mt. Hood and the high Cascades around the Sisters and Mt Jefferson too, but the feeling is much different--more of lone peaks surrounded by an island of green. However I find the beauty of Oregon to be more diverse--we've got the rugged Pacific Coast, the Columbia Gorge, the more Mediterranean-like landscapes of the valleys of Southern Oregon, desert canyon lands, and glacier-clad volcanoes.

"Too many upside down SUV's in ditches with California license plates after the least little snowstorm in Colorado. "

Hey wait a minute I thought those were all in Central Oregon/Bend! You mean you have them too?

Colorado has high peaks (except in the east) and it's very dry. It has a large hippie population and is ridiculously expensive in the most beautiful spots. The only minority is Hispanics, but it's pretty white.

Oregon has a more diverse landscape, more diverse population and most of it is pretty wet.

I love both states. But as far as culture goes, I like Oregon better.

Most of Oregon is east of the Cascades and is pretty dry.

If you mean more racially diverse when you say "more diverse population," (not that this has anything to do with scenery) then you are also wrong. Colorado is more racially diverse than Oregon:
State population by race

I am planning on moving to Colorado Springs in a year. I am stuck in Bend, Oregon for now.. I was told COloardo SPrigns is comparable in beauty to Bend.. What do people think? I would like to be in a beautiful mountainous place that has more people . I am more on conservative side so I thought Colorado Springs is up my ally. I also like to experience some diversity and city life and am happy that a big city like Denver is not far. Do people heere think its a good move? I am a bit lonely in Bend, as there is not much happening here. ITs more of a resort , elder person family town. I was thinking a bigger place like Coloardo Springs would be better for me. I always wanted to see Colorado, I have been in Oregon for 18 years, I need a change.

Well, personally, I love Bend (and I consider myself a younger person), but I can see why you may not like it. If you are more conservative, but still want natural beauty, Colo. Springs sounds like a great place for you. It is definitely a bigger city, and has bigger city problems, but I think you will find it what your looking for. Best of luck and enjoy Bend while you can!
