Good peeve, Jezer. There are several things I can't get regularly in my neck of the woods and I've just had to find substitutes.
No four day weekend for me, but did have the choice of taking yesterday off and working today or taking a 3 day weekend. Hmmm, wonder which one I chose
How are we all feeling? I feel really, really good this morning.
Any workers taking today off? I was a federal employee for 37 years. The day after Thanksgiving was never a holiday. I usually took it off, anyway. I'm retired now and every single day is a holiday for me.
Now that winter seems to be kicking in my thoughts are turning more and more to winter comfort food. Over the weekend I'll cook Coq Au Vin- chicken in (red) wine, something like this;
The ingredients look pretty straight forward, but have you ever found that you can't find one key ingredient for a favourite recipe?
The POTD is;
Where do I get that ingredient from?
Ricotta cheese. I have a hard time finding it when I'm intent on making lasagna. I'll throw this in, too. I can hardly locate good Jewish rye bread. What they sell in these parts is not the real deal. The Dutch, Danish and German history of my family insists on good bread. Gimme' that bread!

That's a good Peeve, Jezer. I sometimes find a new recipe I want to try, but it includes one or two ingredients that I don't normally have in my pantry. And, inevitably, the ingredients are expensive and not something I would want to buy just to use for one recipe. If it appears to be an important part of the recipe, I'll just scrap the plan and choose something else to prepare rather than spend several bucks on one little jar of a spice that I'll use a tiny bit of once in a blue moon.

Pam just gave you another idea for a peeve: An expensive ingredient that you buy for a recipe, only to never use it again and have the rest go to waste. That's happened to me so many times! I think I still have a jar of juniper berries from 1985.
Pheasant au vin, I like that! But you have to catch one first. I'll bet they can run pretty fast.
