I had the title song lyrics from 'O Lucky Man' printed below my photo in my college yearbook ('78).

Very nice, Cat. Got quite a few of those red rascals at my place. Would love to see Goldfinches more often though.

In the there's-always-something-to-celebrate-department:

Happy Bikini Day!

As a male of the heterosexual persuasion, I am grateful for its invention. I didn't realize though, that it had been invented before I was born. Somehow, I thought it a product of the late 50s, early 60s. But nope.

From Time magazine: The unveiling of the newly named bikini was a spectacle that almost didn't happen. It seemed designer Louis Réard had a hard time finding a woman willing to model the skimpy suit. Luckily for him — and millions of beachgoers to come — a 19-year-old French showgirl by the name of Micheline Bernardini rose to the challenge. Introducing the small suit to the world on July 5, 1946, Bernardini strutted in the newspaper-printed, G-string bikini for a fashion event at the Piscine Molitor, a popular swimming pool in Paris. Unsurprisingly, the suit was a headline-making success and Bernardini received over 50,000 fan letters.

And here's the photo of brave Micheline that rocked the world.

Me neither. She was a gutsy girl.

And attractive... in a really attractive kind of a way.

That reminds me of how I was surprised to learn that The Girl from Ipanema song was originally inspired by an actual woman, Brazilian model Helô Pinheiro:

Since you folks mention the bikini, how could you forget this classic song about the bikini? This video comes from American Bandstand. Remember that series, Trout?
