I was a terrible snooper as a child. I just hated not knowing things. My parent took to hiding my gifts at a neighbor's house. I went through the receipts in their wallets and figured it out anyway.
My brother was a HORRIBLE snooper...resulting in him telling us what we all got! Ruined it for EVERYONE! Luckily, we told our mom, who took his gifts and switched out the contents with a bunch of Barbie stuff. Yeah, he was mortified! LOL After getting the lecture from my parents (right after we all opened our gifts), THEN he got his. But yeah, he was po'd. He still snooped for a few more years, but kept his mouth shut about it.
Lordy the kid just learned his lesson I think not to snoop hopefully. He needs to learn to respect others privacy. A kid on my block when I was growing up got caught snooping in early December and his parents took the door off his bedroom and cleared the room except for the essentials like the bed, desk and chair. Later he told me it was like a prison until Christmas Day when they gave him back his door, books and toys as his present. It taught him a valuable lesson about respecting others privacy.
I wasn't a snoop as a child but my brother was. He would try and keep bugging me to see if I wanted to know what I got. I would always say I didn't care and could wait which annoyed him greatly. I would always say if he told me what I was getting I would tell on him. I really didn't care what I got for Christmas anyhow until I got a brand new bike since I was tired of riding hand me downs. I was the third girl until my brother came along and it annoyed me to have hand me downs for some reason. I was a cranky child mostly.
This also reminds me of Little House on the Prairie when Almanzo's older brother told him there wasn't any Santa Claus and Almanzo's father said that there was a Santa. On Christmas morning Royal received no presents since he didn't believe. Depends on the parents how they handle breech of trust. Some children just can't stand the anticipation and break for the snoop.
I hid gifts when my kids were little... as they got older and more prone to snooping, I told them that they knew where the gifts were. If they didn't want any surprises on Christmas morning, then go right ahead and snoop. All the unwrapped gifts are on my side of the bed, still in the bags... I haven't had any indication that they are snooping.
I'm pretty sure our 13 year old found our gift stash and went through it.
I know this is common, and I should just let it go, but I'm kind of upset about it. When this happens (if it does) at what age does it happen, and what, if anything, do you do about it?
u never snooped as a kid or teen COME ON let it go its not like they unwrapped it and started using the gift. get over it and chillax
Am I the only one who wraps gifts, and puts them under the tree? No need to hide anything.
That didn't stop me! I carefully unwrapped, play with it, carefully rewrapped and acted surprised! I really was a naughty girl at Christmas Time. I'm a good girl now.....

As I mentioned before, that didn't stop me when I was little...
I actually don't think our son ever snooped. There might have been times where he had a pretty good idea what we had gotten him, but I guess he loved the surprise. And he still does (and he's in college).
I usually would always wrap things right away and put them under the tree. But our two mischievous cats that we recently adopted would make quick work of all bows, ribbons etc. So this year I've wrapped stuff and just put them in the closet so that I'm not tempting them.
