Wouldn't that depend on the subject matter, though? What if the photos depicted violent behavior (bondage, rape, etc) or if the sex was between men and you didn't know your son wasn't straight? (Female-only smut means the lad is so-called normal. )
In those two scenarios among others a non-judgmental conversation once you've soothed your nerves would more likely be called for. Don't you think?
If he's gay.. Don't you think it's better to let him come to you and tell you when he's ready?
I would think.. And, perhaps someone who is gay can give their view.. That "Son, I found your gay porn mags, do you want to talk?" would not particularly be a great way to start a conversation.

The OP did not mention violent porn, just regular porn. I think age makes a difference. Teens range from 13-19. 13 year olds are quite young. 18/19 year olds are young adults.

I wish the OP would give more details. Playboy is not "porn" in my opinion. It's a "nudie magazine". Hustler is porn. I was a teenager in the 70's and I know the difference!
The OP may consider Maxim to be porn.
And I agree with an earlier poster who said the surprising thing is the kid had actual magazines, not internet porn!
This reminds me of that thread where the parents wanted to know what to do when their teen son stole their credit card and bought porn on the internet...
And we were all like, "Well, first of all, teach him about FREE internet porn..."
Depends on the type of porn mag and age of the teen. 13 or 14 with any porn mag would be taken and talked to. 15 or 16 and something like a Playboy or Penthouse would be taken and left at that. A more serious porn might call for a talking to, but depends on the material. 17+ and a regular porn mag would leave it and leave him/her be. The only reason I could see for therapy would be if it is a strange fetish mag or violent mag. But I would think in today's day an age you wouldn't find a magazine anyway just because of the internet.
The boy is 14. The mother found Hustler mags from the 1980s. She took them, confronted him with them in front of the whole family (including grandparents), and sentenced him to weekly therapy for 3 months.
I am told he is in therapy because she is convinced he is a sex addict just because a few of the pages were stuck together. And yet, the mags are nearly 30 years old! How does she know they weren't in that condition before he got a hold of them?
I feel sorry for the chap...and I am happy to report I have heard he has been uncooperative with his therapist.
