When I was a teen (maybe 9th grade) there was a book that my parents had that had naughty bits. I can't even remember how I discovered it, but given their massive book collection (we're talking 1000s of books), I figured they wouldn't miss it. I hid it in my room under my bed. I kept a very messy room - stuff under my bed, all over the floor - a mother's worst nightmare, really.
Well, one day I came home from school and my mom had dumped all of my belongings on my bed - every last thing that had been on the floor and under the bed. Of course, my mind went immediately to the book - I couldn't find it anywhere in my piles of stuff that I had to put away.
I kept waiting and waiting for the inevitable lecture - it never came. My mom confiscated it and never said a word. That was almost worse than getting a lecture.
I'll probably do the same with my kids, although you never know until it happens, right?
If your mom had the book, wouldn't it be a bit hypocritical of her to down you for it? I wonder if that is why she just quietly took it.
I'd feel awfully bad if i had smut or anything akin to it here in the house and my son was struggling..meaning it showed up in his room
Reminds me of when I was a kid. Me and my brother noticed a neighbor had put stuff out by the curb for trash pickup. We went through it and found about 50 Playboy magazines. It was truly a "Red Letter Day" for us ! (we were 12 and 13 at the time) We brought them home and stacked them up in the bedroom. We had out own library
I KNOW my parents saw them but they didn't say anything about them for about a week or two. My Dad sat us down and said that he understood why we would want to look at playboys but that they were demeaning to women. He said that our Mothers feelings might be hurt if we kept the magazines. In the end we agreed that it would be best if they were thrown away.
It's very telling, this prevailing American-centrist point of view that naturally every single household in America has a computer and an internet connection, and every single child, teenager, and adult has a cell phone with or without internet access.
Seriously, it's not that way, people!
Honest to god, are y'all nothing but middle class suburbanites with disposable incomes?
Really?
You don't know any poor people? You don't know anyone who cannot afford internet access or a cell phone?
Seriously?
Well then, good deal. You've done well for yourselves. But I am here to tell you that there are plenty of people who are not as well-off as you. You are apparently so well-off that you automatically & unconsciously take it for granted that everyone is up to speed on the I.T. Highway---that everyone can afford internet connectivity & cell phone charges. I presume as well that you assume everyone can text and/or talk on the phone whilst driving, eh? Do you also assume everyone can afford to run their heating in the winter? Do you assume everyone can afford to pay for their children's school-related field trips? Do you assume everyone can afford to take their children to Disneyland?
And by the way, did you know that magazines of all sorts---including porno---are still being produced in America and the rest of the world? No? You didn't know that? Really? I am not being sarcastic. I am truly amazed that you thought all magazines disappeared after the commercial WWW began in 1994. But if you go to stores like 7-11 you will find actual paper-based magazines. You will! I swear it! Go see for yourself! I ain't lying!
For Heaven's sake, people...
Do you mean you have never googled the fact that MOST human beings on this PLANET do not have phones, televisions, or internet connectivity?
Try it.
Not only does most of the world NOT have phones or internet access, not everyone in America or Europe has those things, either.
By the way, this double-shot latte with caramel & 3 sugars is very tasty...mmmmm...yes.
So, was this a legit therapist he is going to? I would hope that any non-quack would tell the kid (and probably his mom) that this is normal and maybe make sure the kid understands the realities of porn being not real life but otherwise just help him understand that this is a normal part of growing up and how to understand yourself and your desires.
Telling him it is bad and wrong is not productive.
I would have simply put the porn back and said nothing and been happy that my Son (or Daughter) was maturing and had normal healthy sex urges.
When I was that age they told us we would go blind if we did that stuff. If I had the internet back then I would have had a seeing eye dog by the time I was 13 !
There are still porno mags? 99% of teenage boys probably watch ALOT of porn on their smartphones or computer. I would be concerned if they didn't .
Really?
ALL boys watch porn? ALL of them?
