THis is about the 6th time I go out to a restaurant and see this. This is the scenario.
Two adult (I'm assuming parents) and ONE child. The two adults are conversing and enjoying dinner and the child is sitting next to them watching a dvd on a mobile player or playing video games. The two adults never pay attention to the kid except to ask him/ her if finished eating and the kid never puts his/her head up to talk, doesn't pay attention to adults, and only eats. No family conversation or involvement and the child is immersed in technology.
What happen to conversation during dinner and getting the child involved? and I"m not talking about teenagers or even preteens. The children I've seen all seem to be under 8ish. Then parents wonder why they don't know anything about their own child.
maybe it has to do with the area I live in? I don't know. It's not like it's been a certain culture either. I've seen African americans, caucasian, and latino people do this.

About 80% of parents have no business being parents. That is why most people should get a vasectomy or tubal ligation when they become of child-bearing age.

I've never seen it -- but it doesn't surprise me. I wonder if those are two parents with a child or a "date" where the child was brought along.

You don't know anything about these people, what they do when they are not in the restaurant or what the rest of their lives are like.
You have no idea how much they interact with their child outside of that restaurant or whether the child is tired and could use the downtime provided by the technology.
You have no idea whether these people are facing a difficult issue that requires resolution between adults with no involvment (or interest) from a child.
You really have no idea about these people and probably have no business judging them during the hour or so you see them in a restaurant.

I do have business judging them because it is NOT NORMAL to completely ignore a child while you are eating dinner in a restaurant. I am a teacher and I notice these things and WILL judge . This explains a lot to me when I get children in my class that have no manners, no social skills, and are only interested in video games.
Perhaps it angers you to read this because maybe you are one of those parents that uses technology as a babysitter?

I am a teacher also and as a teacher I know that things are not always as they seem when you look at a situation from the outside.

EXACTLY!!!!
You know, maybe these parents NEVER get out. Maybe they always have dinners together. Maybe instead of sticking their kid with a sitter they braught the kid along because he wanted to join mommy and daddy and they agreed as long as they let the P's have some time to "catch up."
There are many possibilities.
And that is what is wrong with teachers. First they are the first to label, judge and even diagnose.
I'm glad there are still teachers like Momma Bear
