This is correct according to
Child Sexual Abuse Fact Sheet | Child Psych

Quote:
Fact: Child sexual abuse is not rare. Retrospective research indicates that as many as 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 6 boys will experience some form of sexual abuse before the age of 18. However, because child sexual abuse is by its very nature secretive, many of these cases are never reported.

I don't blame anyone in this particular case. Everyone involved did what they thought was right and in the best interest of the children. I don't think children should be removed from the home without strong evidence, but I'm not sure what the guide lines are with family services.

The only thing I can say about the parents, who are probably totally innocent, is that they used a lack of judgment. For years there have been stories of parents who were questioned for taking 'bathtub' and 'nude' pics of their kids. So by now one would think....parents would refrain from taking these types of pictures. It isn't like you are missing the documentation of some milestone in a kids life by NOT taking a picture of them without clothes.

Sorry ... but the link does not convince me. I note that the fact sheet quotes "research" but does not source it. Very amateur! I simply do not believe that it is as high as 1 in 4 for girls and 1 in 6 for boys.

If you don't believe it, then do your own research, or do you need some assistance to click a few keys?

Then what would be more comfortable....
1 in 50.
1 in 100.
1 in 1000.

The statistics really aren't the point. It is the one possible child that is the point.

My point is that there is a balance to be struck and I think that this case illustrates that the pendulum has swung too far in one direction.

Show us something to back that up??

One case in the news doesn't prove the pendulum has swung to far.
This is your opinion, no facts what so ever to back it up, you haven't convinced me.

There is always always going to be crime. So we can't take innocent, adorable pictures of our children in the tub now for fear of losing them to the government for a month!? How about bathing our kids? Still allowed? I wipe my 2.5yr olds bottom after he poops...is that ok? I went over to my neighbors yesterday and her 3yr old was dancing naked in a cowboy hat in front of several adults, it was adorable and she took pictures...how is that wrong?

Let's be honest here. If the kids are being abused chances are the parents aren't going to be taking pictures of the abuse and having them developed at Wal Mart. Fear like this is making our children aware and afraid of sexual predators at a time when they should enjoy just being kids. Outside of "tell mommy if any one touches you" they shouldn't even have a thought as to whether showing their perfectly normal bodies is a problem.

Interesting stats from the Crimes Against Children Research Center.

All U.S. homicides: Down 40% 1992 -2005.
Juvenile homicide: Down 36% 1993 – 2005 (kids under age 14)
Juvenile homicide: Down 60% 1993 – 2005 (age 14 – 17)
Forcible rape: Down 28% 1992 – 2006
Sex Abuse Substantiations of Children, 1990 – 2005: Down 51%
Physical Abuse Substantiations of Children, 1990 – 2005: Down 46%
Juvenile Sex victimization trends, 1993 – 2003: Down 79%
These stats were collected and crunched by the Crimes Against Children Research Center, which gets its numbers from the U.S. Dept. of Justice.

What does crime in general and child sexual abuse have to do with one another?
Hello.......no one said you can't wipe the crap off your babies
bottom, talk some sense. You want to take pictures of your kids nude,
better take and print them at home. No need to get anoyed with posters,
we aren't responsible. You can thank the pedophiles for this one.
