Currently, I am using Revolution on my cat and Frontline Plus on my dog.
We are now on the northeast side of Florida and have noticed more ticks around here than in our former location. Kitty and dog seem to do fine.
I use Revolution on my cat - I had checked their site and it says they're approved by the FDA . Have it for all ages and works great and I live in the tropics. Here's link to their doggie site to evaluate. (and no needless to say I don't work for the company)

I have used both Advantix and Frontline. Not familar with Revolution. I liked the Advantix with my dog better it seems to last longer with him in the water. It is interesting that I have to have vet apply a long acting product using Fipronil and Revolution is not acceptable in Hawaii. Is it because Revolution doesn't kill ticks? Seems like what the paperwork is implying. You would think something that also prevents heartworm would be acceptable due to the fact I need to start him on heartworm meds for islands. Any ideas??

Really? Because Revolution kills both. I wonder why it's not acceptable there - gosh I really learn a lot on these forums. I had heard negative stories on some of the other topical products and why I use Revolution on my cat because it's FDA approved and no pesticides. On dogs, well I had both a cat and dog in the states, but here just cats (travel more), which is why I posted the doggie link . Here's what the doggie section said about ticks and it says it kills a particular type of tick so maybe in Hawaii you get other kinds???? No se.
What You Should Know
The American dog tick is probably the most widespread tick species in the United States, and the one most commonly found on pets. The American dog tick is the primary carrier of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, a disease that can be fatal to humans in severe cases. Signs
Ticks attach themselves to a dog’s skin, and feel like bumps when you run your hands through your dog's hair. What You Can Do to Help
With monthly dosing, Revolution® (selamectin) controls American dog tick (D. variabilis) infestations in dogs and puppies as young as 6 weeks. Ask your veterinarian about Revolution

A veterinarian must treat the pet for ticks with a product containing Fipronil or an equivalent long-acting product labeled to kill ticks (Revolution® is not acceptable) within 14 days of arrival and the product name and date of treatment must be recorded on the pet’s health certificate.
From the requirements for Hawaii entry. I don't know why Revolution isn't acceptable.
my beagle is 6mos old 3/25/10. Put her on frontline for the first time one week prior to driving to florida 0n 3/13. She has been playing with my sisters dog since we arrived and been in the dirt constantly in the backyard....yes she now has fleas. I am leaving for New York on thursday 3/24 but before we drive home, she will get a flea bath at petsmart and then into the clean car and crate straight to NY from petsmart...dont want fleas in my ny home...should I switch to advantix? or is my beagle going to get fleas no matter what?????????????????????????????????????????
i am hearing that fleas and ticks are developing resistance to some of the preventative products...... frontline is still working for us..... paws crossed that it continues to do so......
I am going to ask a very stupid question, ok go head and lol. Our dog has never had fleas, which i am very grateful about, and happy as can be, he always gets groomed, never had he even one flea. Are we just lucky or what. Hate acting like i am stupid, but we have had dogs before that have had fleas, but not our little foxy.
Last year I got Frontline for both cats and dogs. It worked fine on the cat, even got rid of the ones she'd picked up from the dogs quickly. It certainly helped the dogs, but did not work as well as it should have. I am also looking for advise on what is really working now.
