I don't recall ever saying that.

I first became aware of this guy R Crumb around the time I moved to Philly. His art highlights a lot of the ugliness of modernity. One you get the idea in your head about how much that's around you is just plain ugliness, it's hard to not notice the things. Power lines is one example. Once your attention is drawn to how ugly and cluttersome they are, it's hard not to notice them anywhere. Another is cars exiting parking garages in the middle of the block on sidewalks. Ideas can be hard to get rid of some times. Once you get the idea that cars shouldn't be darting out at you when walking down the sidewalk, it's hard not to get just a little perturbed everytime that happens.

But anyway, it's not an idea I had put in my head till I moved here, and never really thoguht about it in terms of Minneapolis ramifcations until steeps little Chicago rant.

It's not like it's a new idea either - part of the criticism of streetcars were unsightly power lines. It's also why the power lines are underground in Center City, yet as soon as you leave it it looks like this.

For the record, I moved to Philly on my own terms, as of now am staying here on my own terms, and will likely leave on my own terms, which will have as much and perhaps more to do with wanderlust than anything else. I'm also interested in the notion I keep hearing that the big cities are more and more becoming not necessarily the most interesting places to live anymore. But that's for a time down the road. My wife's the midwest native of us, and she's been sick of Philly since we moved here, and somehow I keep on convincing her to stay "a little while longer". If I offer negative viewpoints, they tend to be about fairly specific things, unless they're about general issues that are also pretty serious. It's true that I don't often join in on cheerleading threads, as I don't really see the point, there are enough cheerleaders here. But perhaps that's led to you not really understanding my relationship to the city, or my opinions of it.

Againfor the record, people calling out blatantly ugly clutter as such is one way of improving a city, it's the same reason I'll call 311 to report dumping, sidewalk problems, broken streetlights, etc.. It's a slight step above boosterism, although surely not world changing, especially in the case of wires that aren't going anywhere.

Is a gay sports bar going to re-open on the ground floor?

Does anyone have a full rundown of what is being built at the Navy Yard? I see a good number of buildings under construction. Extend that Subway! Extend that Subway!

No idea, the article was vague about the restaurant plans.

I'll keep it short because our mod is already upset with how far this thread has strayed.

Multiple comparisons between Phila and Minneapolis that seem to lack an understanding or knowledge of why some of the neighborhood amenities that you enjoyed in Minneapolis are not as abundant or the same in your current Phila. neighborhood. Also inferring that your every day life in Minneapolis was superior to what you are experiencing now in Phila.

There's an entire CD board devoted to city vs city. Wouldn't it make more sense to move these opinions there?

NEW 1900 CHESTNUT RENDERING RELEASED!!!

The new design of 1900 Chestnut totally OBLITERATES the old one! First of all, the height has INCREASED from 27 to 32 floors. Secondly, there is less paneling on this building. Glass, minimal off-white paneling, and limestone will be used. Finally, the facade of the Boyd will be preserved! Pearl, Baker, and the residents of that area did an OUTSTANDING job creating a new, SUPER-IMPROVED design!

Developer revises Boyd Theatre redevelopment plan
