Hello, I am a single mother and I don't make much money, I'm looking to move to the eastern PA area.. I know budget is a big one, I am looking for a 2br apartment and I would like to keep the rent under $900 in an area with decent schools and low crime rate would be nice lol (i also have a dog and cat) I don't know anything about Pennsylvania so any feedback is greatly appreciated, thank you!!!

Good suggestion.

I would also add Bristol, PA.

Glenside, Willow Grove, Hatboro, Horsham, Huntingdon Valley and Rockledge are all good places. It may take a bit of patience but keep checking out the area. I used Hot Pads when I was moving, the map feature made it easy to see where the places were.

Depending on the ages of your kids I would watch where you go inside city limits. While you may end up in a good neighborhood the schools still might not be the best and it could be hard to get them into a private or charter right away.

What you need to do IMHO, is to figure out how far you will be able to commute from your job and then look for a good school district in that area. You will really want to be outside of the Philadelphia School district area if you want good schools for your kids.

Look over the first posts in this forum and you'll see a sticky that asks for a bit more information. That's what we usually like new posters to start with. Questions For Future and Potential Residents and general information.

Okay, so do you want to live within the city limits? Is there a reason you are choosing Philadelphia and not perhaps the Lehigh Valley or a Philadelphia suburb? Do you have a car?

I have a car, initially I didn't want to live within city limits due to my lack of knowledge on the area. I honestly have no preference on where we move as long as its affordable for me and the schools are good for my son. I prefer to stay in eastern PA area to be as close to my family in jersey as possible. I am open to hearing suggestions on any area, I just don't know anything about PA

As far as environment it would be nice to find a community oriented area, low crime, I don't have a preference on "city" or "country" setting as I've done both and I know what to expect with both.. Thanks so much for your time and input
